A Motel from the Golden Age of Hollywood

The Safari Inn is, indeed, a Hollywood classic, even though it's located in Burbank. It's where scenes from many movies and TV series are shot (Apollo 13, CSI, NCIS) which is a two edged sword. If you're there during a daily "shoot," you're going to be inconvenienced, but you do get to see the business of Hollywood in action. Are the rooms swank? Hardly. They are rooms from the 50's with some upgrades, but if you want swank, stay elsewhere. As with most if not all hotels, don't leave valuables or money unattended in your room. The Safari is a piece of Hollywood history and centrally located. The pool and sun deck are fun, but in LA, there are beaches and plenty of sun so you have choices. As for former Burbank-Toluca Lake (another well-kept secret place where celebrities live or have homes) resident and college student in LA, the Safari Inn is like taking a step back in time.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

The MetroLink which is LA's bus service is good, but Burbank and the majority of places most tourists want to see are not readily available via the trains and buses. Car rental becomes almost an imperative or you'll be stuck with a lot of waiting. Also be very aware (from a former and now "re-enlightened" SoCal resident) that drivers in LA are very aggressive and tend to communicate with their horns and hand gestures! Road rage can be a factor with which you may have to deal and that's seldom pleasant when you're a tourist. Taxes run upwards of 10 percent on most items including food. If you want to see celebrities and can get in by appearing to be a "local," the Roosevelt Hotel and the Chateau Marmont Hotel pubs are fertile grounds for star gazing. If you do see a celebrity and desire a picture or an autograph, wait until they've finished eating and be polite when asking. Don't gush all over them and make a scene, just be understanding they also need to relax. Very little is "inexpensive" in LA or its burbs. Even a very good burger, fries and a drink at the In 'n' Out Burger which is everywhere in SoCal will cost at least $10. If you want to find bargains, hit the San Fernando Valley area, especially in Burbank, and shop at the large lot, discount stores. If you want to tour a working studio, the best in my opinion is Warner Brothers, also in Burbank. Go online and purchase tickets in advance. No studio tour is cheap, but this is probably the best bang for your buck. Last item - seat belt laws. If you're driving a car, put on your seat belts BEFORE starting the car and moving. The ticket for not wearing seat belts is a major financial knock in the travel funds!

Unbeatable location for the price

Safari Inn is a quiet and restful place with a nice spotless rooms. Swimming pool is kind of small but it's unbeatable location for the price paid though.

Nice place to stay

Great place to stay if you are going to the Ellen Show, as we were. The room was fine, parking was great and free (which is good for this area). Wireless service was slow most of the time. Not alot of activities in the immediate area except for Warner Brothers, which is where the Ellen show was. You can easily get to other attractions by car or bus from here.

August 27-29 @ Safari

This is the forth time we have stayed @ the Safari and we enjoy it very much! We go down each year for an event at the LA Equestrian Center & the location is great. Also close to NBC studios for the Tonight Show. Most of the staff are wonderful & very accommodating. (Older guy with glasses needs to be a little more flexible when it comes to the 24hr ahead of time request for the shuttle.) The lady that checked us in ended up taking care of everything so we still were picked up. She is a gem! Rooms are clean & neat with comfortable beds. Pool nice and warm, very relaxing. There is no restaurant or bar on-site but the sister hotel (Annabel) next door as these available. One big tip: Avoid "Olives Bistro"! We went over to meet friends for a drink and dinner & [...] the bartender (decent guy) was having to fill-in as dinning room waiter & room service delivery. Guess this year they're trying to save a dime…The person doing the cooking should be fired. (I'm contacting the chain with the complaint.) 2 pasta dishes & 2 steak dishes took over an hour to get out of the kitchen. (Unfortunately, [...] received the brunt of our displeasure.) Food was average at best, past years were good along with the service.Do yourself a favor and go down the street to one of several places, then come back for after dinner beverage. All things said, we would come back again to stay at the Safari in a heartbeat since we always enjoy the place. Just no more food next door.

Most studio tours are only a few miles away, as is the oldest "Bob's Big Boy" in the country.

CA trip

This hotel is in a great location. Very clean and reasonable price. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The shuttle to and from hotel is very convenient. We rented a car from Avis, right down the street, which was half the price of at the airport.

Safari Inn - Retro Fun

Located in a quiet location. Very cute, retro feel. Beds weren't that comfortable and complimentary breakfast wasn't that great but all in all the hotel was clean, staff was nice, and I would stay here again.
