Weekend in Burbank
Very cool hotel. Friendly, helpful staff. Went to a 50th anniversary screening of Disney's "Swiss Family Robinson" at Disney studios (close by) sponsored by D23. Drove to Santa Monica pier and beach, only 25 minutes away. Close to everything. Did the Hollywood tour, picked up by shuttle at the hotel. Shops, theater are all close by.

Great Bargain
For the price it was a great value. Free internet, continental breakfast and a great pool. Downside, the hotel is older. The shower curtain was moldy and the towels were stained. My second room was mildewy. It was walking distance to several shopping areas and restaurants. Minutes away from Universal Studios. I will defintely stay there again.

Very Nice Stay
Very lovely and comfortable rooms. Friendly and kind staff. Location is really good if you are in LA for universal studios or six flags. Unbeatable price for that quality.

A Motel from the Golden Age of Hollywood
The Safari Inn is, indeed, a Hollywood classic, even though it's located in Burbank. It's where scenes from many movies and TV series are shot (Apollo 13, CSI, NCIS) which is a two edged sword. If you're there during a daily "shoot," you're going to be inconvenienced, but you do get to see the business of Hollywood in action. Are the rooms swank? Hardly. They are rooms from the 50's with some upgrades, but if you want swank, stay elsewhere. As with most if not all hotels, don't leave valuables or money unattended in your room. The Safari is a piece of Hollywood history and centrally located. The pool and sun deck are fun, but in LA, there are beaches and plenty of sun so you have choices. As for former Burbank-Toluca Lake (another well-kept secret place where celebrities live or have homes) resident and college student in LA, the Safari Inn is like taking a step back in time.

Sightseeing tip:
Short drive from hotel
The MetroLink which is LA's bus service is good, but Burbank and the majority of places most tourists want to see are not readily available via the trains and buses. Car rental becomes almost an imperative or you'll be stuck with a lot of waiting. Also be very aware (from a former and now "re-enlightened" SoCal resident) that drivers in LA are very aggressive and tend to communicate with their horns and hand gestures! Road rage can be a factor with which you may have to deal and that's seldom pleasant when you're a tourist. Taxes run upwards of 10 percent on most items including food. If you want to see celebrities and can get in by appearing to be a "local," the Roosevelt Hotel and the Chateau Marmont Hotel pubs are fertile grounds for star gazing. If you do see a celebrity and desire a picture or an autograph, wait until they've finished eating and be polite when asking. Don't gush all over them and make a scene, just be understanding they also need to relax. Very little is "inexpensive" in LA or its burbs. Even a very good burger, fries and a drink at the In 'n' Out Burger which is everywhere in SoCal will cost at least $10. If you want to find bargains, hit the San Fernando Valley area, especially in Burbank, and shop at the large lot, discount stores. If you want to tour a working studio, the best in my opinion is Warner Brothers, also in Burbank. Go online and purchase tickets in advance. No studio tour is cheap, but this is probably the best bang for your buck. Last item - seat belt laws. If you're driving a car, put on your seat belts BEFORE starting the car and moving. The ticket for not wearing seat belts is a major financial knock in the travel funds!

Classic
This place is super convenient for meetings at a number of studios in Burbank. The rooms are a little dark and it can get a little noisy but it's a classic piece of mid-century LA.

Great Location and Food Choices
Good value for the price. My only objections are a smoker stood outside my room and talked on his cell phone both day and night. Had to park too far from my room.

I Enjoyed My Stay
I went on a weekend trip to L.A. and chose this hotel based on a friend's recommendation. The staff was very helpful and friendly. There was a receptacle for cigarette smoker's use outside of my room. I hated that. I do not smoke and I do not want to smell smoke everytime I leave my room. If you go out to a restaurant and save any leftovers, you will have to use the hotel employees' microwave or go to the laundry facility on the premises where the microwave for guests is located. I didn't like that at all. However, the hotel is conveniently located near the Burbank airport and to a lot of other attractions in the area and is located in a pretty safe neighborhood. I would stay at this hotel again. They provide transportation to and from Burbank airport.
