You go for the charm....

Love Fairmont chain. However, I was not prepared for the underwhelming rooms in the historic building. Though charming, and very much a throwback to the time period, the rooms could use some attention and updating. Spa and gym were lovely, wine and cheese hour in the lobby was nice as well. Staff were courteous and gracious.

Fantastic Sonoma Retreat

Gorgeous hotel and great experience! The mineral spa is a MUST experience and daily yoga class was greatly appreciated. Staff was great and restaurant Sante was one of the top restaurants we've ever experienced. Not sure why the hotel feels the need to charge hotel guests for parking as anyone visiting has to drive to get around. No other hotel in the area charges extra like that.

Money-saving tip: Short drive from hotel

Stop at the Safeway in Sonoma and load up on water and other basic items as they aren't cheap or readily available at the hotel.

Pleasant Stay at the Fairmont Sonoma

We enjoyed our stay at the Fairmont Sonoma. The hotel was very clean and elegant and the staff was extremely pleasant . The hotel is located outside of town, so you end up driving everywhere, but it is also located at the foot of the Sonoma wine trail, which is convenient. We would certainly stay at the Fairmont again and recommend it to others who are looking to experience both Sonoma and Napa. Our biggest criticism is that we had to pay $15 per night to park the car ($25/night for valet), which we felt should have been included.

pricey but enjoyed

When we first got in our room, we found bugs on our bed which is not a nice impression of this hotel. It was nice of the hotel to upgrade our room to a king size bed, which they should.Overall it was a nice hotel, old, pricey, but we enjoyed it.

Great place to stay and relax

Wow, we went to the French Laundry but I have to say our food here was much better. We were only here 3 nights but after a day of eating and wine tasting it was a great place to sit and relax at. The service was outstanding.

Great restaurant; Terrible concierge

Maybe our expectations were too high... We thought that Fairmont hotels were run at a high standard, afterall the Plaza and Savoy are Fairmont hotels. The property isn't outstanding, but to be honest we didn't mind; we were happy with our room and the pool was fine. The restaurant is excellent. Period. As good as any "hotel restaurant" you'll find anywhere. Which brings us to the concierge... They may as well have simply installed a computer at the concierge desk with an internet connection to Google. Our first experience was when the concierge didn't bother to return our phone call, and it didn't get any better when we met her in person. There was absolutley no "value added" provided by the concierge; to help us make plans or proactively offer suggestions; and add to that no follow-up. The result is that this property is "just" a hotel, and as just a hotel there are much better choices available. Don't go.

Nice place to stay

We were only there for one night as we passed through Sonoma on a vineyard crawl so we did not get a chance to take advantage of the spa or the pool. We did eat at Sante, which was phenomenal. We also hit the fitness center, which was bigger and had more equipment options compared to most other hotels. It was a little further from downtown Sonoma than we had thought. I would stay there again and would recommend it to anyone else.
