Howard Johnson Express Inn - Bakersfield

The price for the room was good, the location was great, easy freeway access. the ammenities were provided. There were a few issues, they did not tell us at check in that there was a phone deposit so we had no phone service, there was no plug for the bathtub so we had to make our own and we discovered roaches in the room and was told by staff that there was nothing they could do about that.

When I made a reservation I called the Bakersfield Howard Johnson hotel and asked them to out 2 more big bath towels and that i would need a down stairs room. The clerk stated that he would let the house keepers know that I would like 2 more big bath towels. When we arrived to the hotel they gave us a downstairs room but no 2 big bath towels. I called the clerk if I could hasve 2 big bath towles all he gave myhusband 2 floor towles for my hair.My husband and I thought that was very rude of him to do.

The refrigerator and microwave were not plugged in. Not realizing this I placed food in fridge noticed it was off. I turned it on using the dial that was hanging on the inside of the fridge. I figured it did not work, Correct I was. My "fish" was warm in fridge. later I went to use the microwave when I noticed it was not plugged in at all. A matter of fact, the plug was located behind a heavy dresser. The pillows were thin and the bed lumpy. In the morning a cockroach ran across the carpet right in front of me. Not only that, but it appears that the room next to mine was used for storage and I could hear clanging around of materials very late at night and very early in the morning.

the tv remote did not work half of the time the room was clean parking area well lighted

My husband and i spent 4 nights in this hotel. After the first night we asked the front desk if we could switch rooms since the people next door were extremely loud. [...] Other than that the hotel shower was covered with long black hairs(i'm blonde and my husband does not have hair) probably from the last customer....also, according to picture posted on booking site the hotel room looked new, updated an had a flat screen...we did not get that room and i'm wondering if a room like that exists at this hotel. Go somewhere else if you are staying more than one night!

Everything was great, I have no negative comments, and I would recommend the hotel at any time

Clean and odorless non-smoking room. nice location right next to the high way.

Convenient location in a so-so location, fine for our needs(overnight stay en-route north, in bad weather.)Note:all the queen nonsmoking rooms are upstairs(stairs.)Front desk was kind enough to accomodate me in a downstaries king as i am handicapped. Window was double-paned, but still a lot of noise throughout the night from the adjacent 99 freeway.

Rooms were very old and dirty looking. Smoke stained walls.

There were bugs and it was loud every night. I could hear everything.
