Gets the job done
We got a great rate at this hotel so decided to come to Catalina and stay for 2 days, one night. The rooms are average motel-type rooms, but clean and adequate. Pool is small, as well as hot tub. Staff was nice, especially the shuttle drivers, and during the off-season ( we went early Feb) they aren't as busy and give you plenty of attention. We got what we paid for and we were happy, and we were only in the room to sleep anyway. Catalina is a wonderful place for a getaway; don't miss hiking part or all of the Trans-Catalina Trail and seeing herds of bison!

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
Go to Antonio's restaurant right on the harbor. Whether or not you have kids in your party, you'll love throwing peanut shells on the floor... and some of the guys there burst out in song occassionally. Fun place!

Canyon Hotel & Spa
Very helpful staff. At over $200/night, room very overpriced compared to anywhere USA but you are "captive" on the island. In room amenities less than expected (no frig, dark, off in a corner). Quiet location, good shuttle service to town. Town can be covered in less than one day and travel anywhere outside of town restricted to tour bus. In-town (only) golf car rental also overpriced at $80 for 3 hours.

Shopping tip:
Short walk from hotel
Maximize your fun and reduce your cost by taking the early morning ferry to island, eat at any of the resturants along the water, shop the two streets, THEN bite the bullet for the $80 golf cart - you'll be able to see everything in that time, catch the evening ferry back to mainland and stay at a great hotel for less than $110.

large flaw, piped music
If you do not like piped music all day long in the common relaxation areas loud enough to even reach the bedrooms avoid this hotel at all costs.

Great Place
Shuttle service was timely. We liked the fact that we were able to leave our luggage very early in the morning even though check was 3pm, we decided to stay an extra day and they were more than helpful in changing our reservations and honoring the great price we got through our travel company. We would stay there again. I have told all my friends about it.

Money-saving tip:
Short walk from hotel
no need to rent a golf cart,as it is a reasonable walk to town and a shuttle runs about every 10 min.
