A good stop on the way up the coast
We stayed at this hotel on our drive up the coast to Oregon. It was a good halfway point on our trip. We only stayed one night and the staff was courteous and helpful - even provided my husband with complimentary comb and toothpaste since he forgot his. Continental breakfast was good - included make your own waffles. My only complaint about it was there was not enough seating so we had to sit on the couch in the lobby to eat. Another minor issue was that being in a first floor room we could hear every door slam and bed creak from the room above ours.

Dining tip:
Short drive from hotel
The Six Rivers Brewery one exit north of the hotel, in McKinleyville, has excellent pub-type food at reasonable prices. Burgers, pizzas, salads and seafood. The atmosphere is that of a local tavern, so it's a little loud and they have live music after 9:30 pm most nights of the week, but fast service and a very friendly staff.

The hotel was good. The location was near the freeway and pretty loud.

Gross
At check in it took a while for the lady behind the counter to even say hello. Then didnt expalin why she needed my creditcard again after prepaying for the room. Was not told how to get to our room. We choose a non smoking room. To get to our non smoking room you had to walk thru the smokers hall. The carpets in the halls were stained. The room was nice for the price we paid. But the overall 1st impression was ruined! I would not recommend this place.

one night stay
this Motel was very clean and modern. Directions to find could have been explained better due to two round abouts to go thru to find. Motel signs before the exit were not seen. The only negative to say was the shower curtain was missing from the room and not noticed until I was in rhe shower.

College Bound
Just in for one night to visit Humbolt University. Checked in late, staff was very friendly. Room was clean and comfortable (cigarette burn in the bedspread) though wall heater was old and took awhile to work. Very close to campus. Not fancy, just a clean and functional room to flop in for the night. Standard continental breakfast. Overall, good enough for one night.

Disappointed!!
Will not book again!
We wanted to escape the 3 digit heat in Redding and wanted to go see all the beaches near Arcata so we decided to book the Quality Inn, only after looking through pictures, guest reviews of the hotel, amenities and the prices. When we arrived at the hotel the room was a bit small (not worth $100 a night)and simple and it did not really look like the pictures. We were also locked out of our room and had to go get new keys (the keys we had no longer worked!), which shouldn't have happened at all! There was a pool and spa, however, it was not available! It was under construction and this information was not given to us as we were booking this hotel. It would have been nice to relax in the spa, and we did book this hotel considering it had one. Some of the furniture and parts of the carpets had stains that were very visible. We were stuck on the first floor so we could hear the people that were above us. Breakfast was okay...

location good for HSU
There are few hotels in this are so the location was central to Humboldt State University. Beyond the location, I was not impressed. We had stayed at this hotel on previous trips but this time it was below our expectations. The room was very dirty. The carpets were stained and looked like they had not been cleaned in quite some time. The outside hallway was also quite dirty. The carpets had stains and the walls were dirty.
