clean & free parking
This was a nice stay. The rooms are good size and very clean. The breakfast buffet is above average. A little tricky to find the first time off the highway but lots of restaurants within walking distance. Staff very helpful

Great location to visit San Francisco
Overall the location & cleanliness is very good.The only drawback on my last day my key didnt work & the cleaning lady is not helpful & I really need to use the bathroom in my room in the 3rd fl.I hve to wait for the elevator to go down to the receptionist to fix my room key. The breakfast is ok it run out of hot water & nobody could help the guest bec nobody is in the kitchen to refill what is needed Good parking & on Saturday they have farmers mkt right in frnt of the hotel. Bus stop is few steps away & a lot of eating area near the hotel.

Good location outside San Francisco
The Hotel was clean and within walking distance to many local restaurants. Free parking was a plus considering many of Hotels in the area charge $20-$25 for daily parking. Free hot and cold breakast was included which saved on eating out. The only downside was the plumbing was a little loud and woke me up every morning when other guest were showering in the am. Not good if you like to sleep in or are a light sleeper.

Great clean and comfortable hotel!
I had a great time staying at Hawthorn Suites. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I stayed in a King Bedroom Suite and the bed was very comfortable and the room had a mini kitchen area. They also have a free hot breakfast every morning that was nice. The spa room was very relaxing. There are tons of restaurants within walking distance and lots of things to do in the surrounding area. I would recommend visiting Crown Memorial State Beach just a few miles away and Jack London Square in Oakland for entertainment and shopping. Stay here! Can't beat the price and location.

Lots of great festivals and activities very close to the hotel. Also great public transportation if you don't have a car. Tons of restaurants within walking distance.

Major Pain
Hawthorn Suites
We went dancing on the USS Hornet. The location of the hotel was perfect, the band even stayed there. There was even a street fair going on with plenty to see. The rooms are not very sound proof however that was the only bad thing. Breakfast was wonderful.

college dad
ideal for family travel
The purpose of the trip was to move our daughter into college. Since we had lived in Alameda and gone to post graduate work in the Bay Area, it was not a challenge driving to the UC campus. The best option would have been to stay in Berkeley (options are limited). However, considering the price/size of the room, safety and limited traffic in Alameda, it was well worth the trade-off. If you are looking for a hotel and town with a lot of activity going on, this is not the right hotel for you. However, if you are looking for some place quiet and do not mind communting to Emmeryville or San Francisco or Oakland or Berkeley, this is an ideal place to stay.
