Decent motel

Pros: 1) About 60 miles from Grand Canyon - not too close but is not too bad if you don't want to spend a lot and stay at Tusayan or inside GC. 2) Good service - they are quite friendly 3) Free breakfast and free wifi Cons: 1) Bathroom wasn't quite spotless. A bit stained but not too bad. 2) Sometimes I could hear people walking / jumping on the floor above.

The good and bad

On arrival, we asked for a 'good' room knowing from earlier reviews of in-room appliance failures. The manageress assured us that all rooms were good. However, the experience turned out to be the opposite; the A/C unit malfunctioned, coffee machine was broken and the refrigerator did not cool properly. On complaining the following day we were given another room where everything worked fine. Apart from a hot first night, we wasted time moving rooms. Also, breakfast finished before 10am, which we thought was too early (we were turned away at 9:50am on the second day). Breakfast on the first day was very basic, no eggs were served. Rooms were reasonably clean and quiet. Pool was disappointingly small and did not look very clean. Ice machine available on site was good. Parking was plentiful and safe. Good location for trip to the Grand Canyon and Williams is a nice town, with plenty of food options. Would recommend the hotel if you are looking for basic accommodation at an affordable price but be sure to check that everything works.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

Fast food outlets like Pizza Hut, McDonalds, KFC and Taco Bell located within walking distance. Short drive past the railway station to local eateries. Gas was cheaper at Circle-K than other gas stations.

Met requirements but plenty Good

Our destination was the Grand Canyon, but the car trip there was a bit long. At least the staff tried to place us very near our other family's room. Then we were told to use the breakfast facility even though the website said to not expect that ... that's good service. I do wish that smoking rooms were not so intermingled with nonsmoking rooms as they are in this and many other hotels.

at the Grand Canyon, the in-park shuttle service is a good idea for the first-time visitor. Take the blue shuttle route until it connects with the red shuttle route -- the blue route mostly connects shopping areas and the red connects real sight-seeing

Good Stay

We booked at this HoJo for the price, included breakfast, and the pool. It was well worth the price and location! The breakfast area in the lobby was dreadfully hot, stuffy, and small. However, the homemade waffles were pretty darn good. The front desk was more than accommodating with pool towels and additional shower towels. However, the indoor pool area was very stuffy. The room was clean, and the window cooler (a/c) worked wonderfully!

This Howard Johnson was within a short walking distance to the Grand Canyon Railway. And when we returned to the depot it was just another short walk to dinner and back to the HoJo.
