Area description
Tucson is in Southeast Arizona just 66 miles north of the Mexican Border. The city grew along the Santa Cruz and Rillito rivers, where native peoples grew corn, beans and squash since pre-historic times. This desert valley is surrounded by mountains known as "Sky Islands."

To the north, the 9,000-foot Santa Catalina Mountains feature the southernmost ski area in the United States. To the east are the Rincon Mountains, rising to the 8,644-foot summit of Mica Mountain. The highest are the Santa Rita Mountains south of the city, with Mount Wrightson reaching 9,453 feet. The lowest are the volcanic Tucson Mountains to the west; the summit is 4,687-foot Wasson Peak.

Good, but not great.

Not a bad location, nice and sort of secluded from the main road, so it was quiet. The bed wasn't super comfortable, but the room was very clean and there were plenty of towels. Staff was super friendly and willing to help with anything. Would visit again if in the area.

Very Happy About This Place

We had such a great time at the Westward Look Wyndham Resort and Spa in Tucson, very very nice resort. Stayed there while my daughter attended U of A orientation, it's about 15 minutes from the college. Great staff and the food at GOLD, their restaurant on-site, was to die for! Best filet mignon I've ever had! We will definitely be back!

Good at the discount price

We got a 45% discount (mid-week off season) and in our estimation that was pretty much the value of the room, especially when you count in the extra $20 per day we paid as a "hotel services fee." We did not see what that $20 covered, since any good hotel or motel provides with the room rate a coffee maker in the room, etc. and there was no "free breakfast" offered, not even continental. The staff was exceptional. We had a problem with noise and they did their very best to correct it, even offered to move us to another room. Getting around the resort is a bit of a challenge -- very spread out with winding roads to room groups, and we had to park in a lot some distance away from our room. The buildings are old but charming, if a bit "thready" around the edges. The restaurant was all right but pricey. It was all comfortable enough and for the most part we had a good time during our 3 nights there. By that time the hotel fee was up to $60 and we're still not sure for what.

Desert Oasis

The staff is very attentive, the grounds quite enjoyable, rooms are of four-star quality. Location is not very convenient to downtown but more peaceful as a result. Overall a good hotel for tourists but not as much for business traveller's due to its location.

Paid in advance--resort charged me again

The resort was fine, nice location but I paid in advance and then was charged for the resort fee. That was all fine but they went back and charged another $520 for the room.

A Non-Chain Experience

Westward Look has been a little-known gem for years. Tucked away in the foothills of the Catalina Mountains overlooking Tucson, it provides all the amenities while preserving the gorgeous desert and all of the desert critters. Has a wonderful hiking trail through the desert around the property. Great tennis & workout area. Good food & great location. Attentive staff.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

While the Gold Room has great Mexican-Continental cuisine, it's just a short drive to South Fourth Avenue where all the real Sonoran food is. Enjoy the Gold Room but take the drive. And don't forget La Roca in Nogales, Sonora, just an hour away. Some of the best food in the Republic. (You'll need your passport to get back across the border).

Comfort and Beauty

We stayed 1 week, and WWL to be a great location for day trips to hike, bike, and shop. The grounds are spectacular and if you can get a west facing balcony, the sunset views are special. The rooms are spacious and well done. The downside is that the property is old. Though reasonably well cared for it shows its age and if you are looking for high style ammenities, look elsewhere.

Wonderfully situated with great views, this hotel was so peaceful. Although a bit out of the way, the drive was worth it. Spacious room and great bed. Lovely for walks and hiking. Only complaint would be no towel bars in the bath and poor lighting in room.

Great base for Tucson visit

Large and comfortable room with a cozy king sized bed. The two sinks in the bathrooms came in handy when getting ready in the morning. Had a lower level room which was fine for us but if you are easily woken by noise from guests in the unit above, you might want an upper unit. This resort is in a nice location for hiking trips with several spots within 6-7 miles.
