Our trip to Tempe, Az to visit our son
We ended up not so near our kids as we expected, but it was an easy freeway ride to their house. And, bonus, the freeway entrance was just across the street from us. Loved that convenience. Our son had invited us to see a band we took him to when he was 8 years old, New Year's 1980. We had so much fun together. The hotel was so comfortable, loved the bed, wanted to take it home. The room was good-sized and having a little fridge in the room is always great news. We enjoyed our stay and the great hot breakfasts. Thank you.

It was fine
Very thin walls. From bed, with a sitting room between, I could hear footsteps and passing conversations in the hallways. TV clearly audible in the next room. I swear I heard someone tuning a guitar in the next room. And I'm on the deaf side. The AC was also a fairly loud roar, although it was white noise. The air near the elevators was inexplicably hot (leaking from above?). Otherwise clean, comfortable, adequate. The staff was friendly and obliging. The small outdoor pool would be nice for small children. At $60 a night in the summer, a very good value.

Last night in AZ before going home
I typically like staying at Hawthorn Suites hotels while traveling, however this one did not impress me. The building is nice and the hotel was clean. Management could make the place better, but they seem to do things on the cheap... Location isn't the best (tucked away from other hotels and/or restaurants). Overall it is not a bad hotel if you simply need a place to stay for a night and that is it.

Business trip to Phoenix/Tempe
This was my first stay at a Hawthorn Suites. The room product is the best thing about the hotel and the hot breakfast was a plus. What I didn't like: directly on the highway and noise; very small lot, all blacktop, no landscaping; extremely small pool, no privacy, exposed to the entrance driveway; only one local, non-branded restaurant in walking distance.

Good location, terrible maintenance
This hotel needs some serious cleaning. The first room we were assigned to had the door ajar and the pillowcases were dirty and the toilet had not been cleaned. The second room was better, but still in need of maintenance as the bathroom fan squealed whenever you turned it on, the sink was dirty and we found a beat up cell phone case from a previous guest under the curtains when we closed them. We stayed here due to proximity to family member graduating; however, we would have moved to a different hotel if there were other options close by, which there were not.

AVOID THIS HOTEL!
Without a doubt the worst hotel I have stayed in over 30+ year of travel. Room was dirty (sheets on bed soiled, carpet hadn't been vacuumed in days) and there were on sheets on second bed and no soap provided in the room. Staff was unresponsive to requests to remedy situation. [...] There are many other options in the Tempe/Phoenix area and all would be a big improvement over this very disappointing experience.

/What a dump!
The property was shabby, the AC sounded like a 747 at takeoff, the beds were lumpy and hard, the decor dreadful, the towels like sandpaper, the bathrooms were horrid. I would recommend this place as an alternative to spending a night in the state prison...but just barely.
