Great location, affordable price

As many reviewers noted, the exterior is deceiving. The interior, with it's lovely courtyard is really a surprise. The rooms are pretty compact but have all the amenities for a comfortable stay. Comfortable beds, a fridge, robes, etc. Breakfast is pretty basic--the highlight is make- your -own waffles. Location is great--minutes from ASU-Tempe, the botanical garden, some interesting hiking trails as well as various shops and restaurants. On a main strip but never heard any road noise. Overall, a very good value.

Good stay, comfortable and convenient

Enjoyed our 4 night stay here. Room was spacious and comfortable. The pool area was clean, the lawn area had a nicely lit gazebo, a canaped swing set, and a parakeet atrium. The restaurant only offers breakfast until 10:00, but there is a room service menu for the rest of the day/night from a reasonable local delivery service. There are two tables outside to enjoy eating outside instead of your room. The business center is open 24 hours so you can print your boarding passes or other documents when needed. The staff was friendly and helpful. Parking is free on three sides of the hotel. We were in room 119 on the first floor which was convenient to the rear parking area. There are only two stories in this hotel but be aware that there are no elevators.

clean room with friendly staff

Stayed one night and basically just slept there. The evening manager promptly quieted some noisy neighbors, when it was brought to his attention. The only issue we had was that there was no one in the dining room for breakfast, although it was open. Another party was seated, but no one came to seat us or to give us a menu once we seated ourselves. After about 15 minutes of seeing no one, we left to eat elsewhere. We've stayed here before and we will again, as the rooms are older, yet clean and comfortable.

Clean but bed is awful!

The grounds are nice, the rooms are clean, the pool is great but the beds are awful! We had 2 queen beds. One was hard and the other sunk in the middle. No matter what we did, we ended up in the middle of the bed every night. Also, the walls between the rooms are well insulated but the outer walls need help! You could hear every conversation, day and night, as people walked by the room. I've stayed in many hotels and this was the worst for noise! Good value though, and as I said, it was clean and the grounds and pool are nice.

Good place to stay

I wanted to stay in this place because of a couple of reasons: the cost, its location dead-center between two parts of Scottsdale the I needed to visit on two different days. The people at the front desk were very nice and helpful, as were the cleaning staff when I encountered them one day out on the patio. The room was a normal motel room with no frills. It was comfortable and had everything that I needed. There were only a few issues that I had with the place: 1) The air conditioning/heat in the room made a strange rather loud moaning sound when I had it on. With it off, the room felt and smelled a little musty, so I kept it on while in the room. 2) The breakfast was not free. I know this is becoming standard at many hotels, and this is not the first place for which I have made this complaint. But the hotel should state on their website that it does not come with free breakfast. 3) Because there are patio chairs and ash trays outside of each room, people tend to gather outside on the walkway in the late evening to talk and smoke. The first night that I was there, there were people outside my door until after midnight, talking, laughing, drinking, and smoking. Of course, that's just my luck -- I happened to be there at the same time as people who liked to be outside late, talking and smoking. Other people might find the place very quiet, depending on who else happens to be staying there at the same time. Regarding food in the area: there are no truly good restaurants in the direct vicinity. There is a small sub sandwich and pizza shop in the plaza next door, as well as a small pub. Down the road there is a buffet restaurant and a few other random small places, but nothing that great unless you go farther. I was also surprised that it was almost surrounded by car dealerships. This is not a bad thing -- in fact, I think that it helps to make sure the hotel is safe since car dealerships tend to have security cameras everywhere and night watchmen on duty. But it did surprise me at first. Would I recommend the place? Yes. I felt safe; it fit in well with what I was looking for -- a place where I could sleep at night, more than anything; and the staff were very helpful when it came to giving directions and advice on places to go.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

In the little plaza next door to the hotel (to the right if looking at McDowell Rd from the hotel), there is a little sub sandwich and pizza shop. I arrived late my first night and wanted to get something quick and easy to eat. They have a very good chicken and veggie pizza that I would recommend, large enough for one very hungry person or for two semi-hungry people.

Highly Recommended!

I just returned from a 3 night stay at this hotel (my first time ever in Arizona!) & would highly recommend it. The location is great, the hotel is clean & safe, there is free wi-fi & there is a restaurant on site (it only serves breakfast though). The room has a small fridge & large-screen TV with lots of cable channels. The pool is nice; however, it was too cold for me to go swimming. They provide towels pool-side so you don't need to bring your own. There is also a wonderful bird aviary filled with parakeets & a few finches. The front desk is 24 hours & they sell things like postcards, batteries & toiletries. There is a lounge/bar & it has a lovely fish tank outside of it as well as a bench you can sit in. The location is literally 10-15 minutes tops from the airport & one mile away from the Desert Botanical Garden. You can also take the #17 bus (the stop is right across the street) to get to the Phoenix Art Museum and the Japanese Friendship Garden. There is another free bus (the Scottsdale "trolley") that will take you straight to the Arts District & Old Town Scottsdale. There is a small shopping center right next door called Papago Plaza but unfortunately most of its businesses are closed/vacant so it's a tough finding a place to eat dinner at night. The only other downside is that the room was very cold at night & in the morning. Each room is individually temperature controlled, but the heat only comes out of a small vent & it's not enough. Best scenario: Bring warm clothing & you'll be fine! I'd definitely stay at this hotel again.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Hotel is very close to the Desert Botanical Garden, which is why I chose its location - you can walk to the garden easily from the hotel - it's only a mile away.

Wonderful courtyard~

It is located in the midst of town, so there was ease to freeways, food and overall town. Older facility but clean, and the staff was available when needed and pleasant. What I really enjoyed was the courtyard. The birds, chess set, swing and Christmas tree & lights made a relaxing and festive area. Just a tad cold for me this time of year even in Phoenix!
