  • Sunset Cinema series with al fresco film screenings
  • Planet Trekkers Kids Club: Indoor and outdoor activities like life-size chess, treasure hunts, gaming room (Wii and X-Box) and more

Rooms

Thirty-five acres of lush desert landscape are the backdrop for the incomparable rooms, suites and villas at InterContinental Montelucia Resort and Spa. Expect poster beds, desert, pool or mountain views, private patios or balconies and the Divine Bed by Joya Spa. Flat-panel HDTVs, free Wi-Fi Internet access, luxurious sunken bathtubs and showers with dual showerheads are some of the amenities that make this resort a Scottsdale standout.

Features

While the heart and soul of the InterContinental Montelucia Resort and Spa comes from Andalusia, there are other influences here, too -- a restaurant inspired by Villa San Michele in Tuscany, a wedding chapel with elements of the Hotel Cipriani in Venice. The Castillo Lucena event space is accented with 16th-century palace double doors from the village of Luceno in southern Spain.

Dining

Restaurants, bars and cafes at the InterContinental Montelucia Resort and Spa represent some of the best of Scottsdale, from Lavazza coffee drinks and housemade gelato to award-winning fine dining at Prado, where the dinner menu changes daily to highlight the freshest ingredients available.

Recreation

InterContinental Montelucia Resort and Spa features five pools surrounded by palm and citrus trees and direct views of Camelback Mountain. Soak up the sun or relax in the shade of a luxury cabana.

Joya Spa provides a combination of bliss-inducing services, including spa treatments, salon services, a yoga and fitness center and global spa cuisine at Joya Terrace.

not so sure

we had a problem with our airline and would only arrive to spend a half day there. I contacted orbitz and they advised me to contact the hotel for a refund or a voucher for a future stay. So i did....and of course they were not willing to do anything. We were really looking forward to staying here and its unfortunate that no one was able to help us. they wouldnt even listen to us.

Beware!

Notice the lower rating of value. That's because you get nickeled and dimed to death! Unfortunately, your not talking about nickels and dimes. They don't tell you about the WiFi fee that you pay because you don't know about the free pin# you were given. Plus a $25 per day resort fee. Plus $29.64 per day for a valet fee. And a 22%gratuity added to services! All of this adds up to some BIG TIME MONEY. And they give you 1ply toilet paper!!!

Not Worth It

When you compare rates be sure you factor in a $25 per day Resort Fee and $29 per day Valet Fee You would think that a dip in the pool would be refreshing... but it feels like bath water. Why pay extra for that?! The staff are best and are looking for tips, but how can you afford it when the management bleeds you dry/ It's like the keeper of the house character from Les Miserable!

over priced

If your looking to pay an arm and a leg for a weekend get away then this is the place for you. The food at the resort was slimy and way over priced. We only ate the once because of this. We found that the spa part to be okay but not spectacular, I could have stayed home and gotten better service. This was suppose to be an anniversary trip not a birthday celebration but the hotel screwed up an sent us cupcakes saying happy birthday then later sent some truffles saying happy anniversary. But come to find out we were charged for both. The hotel says its a five star but the only time I saw five star was when we were leaving.

Great Rooms

We definately enjoyed are stay at the Montelucia. However when I checked in I had asked for a special room given the fact that this was a special weekend getaway for my boyfriends birthday. Well I would have hated to see the view and location for one of the not so special rooms. Overall it was a nice room, beds were comfortable, and a patio area with a double lounge. We we unfortunately located on the first floor so limited privacy for a romantic weekend and NO view...which I requested. The tub did not drain, so they fixed that. However when I went to take a bath the following night the stopper did not work...they just disconnected the whole thing! Had issues with the TV and every night around 7:00pm when we were getting ready for dinner the turn down service would walk into the room!! Also the guest parking is not located close to any of the rooms. You have to walk the entire resort depending on your location...we were in building 11...if you are lucky you can hitch a ride with one of the gold cart dudes. I do have to say that we did get to know one of the golf cart dudes...[...].. and he was very helpful and extrememly accomodating. Resort fees of $25 per night were a joke...for what?? Not sure I would stay here again as it did not meet the expectations that I had for a first time romantic get away

How did they get five stars?

Was promised a full resort view and received a courtyard service area view. It took five days of complaining to get a beautiful change. Very few of the rooms have a beautiful view...what was the architect thinking? I have stayed in many beautiful resorts, this was not one of them. I cannot figure out the appeal. The rooms are very luxurious in a seventies spanish way, revisited and updated with luxurious materials. The staff is invisible to non-existent. Some of the staff have a surly, stuffy attitude. All in all I was not impressed. The location was the best for me, located near friends homes. The only positive is if u want a quiet hideaway with a large impressive bathroom this is your place.

lovely, but too opulent for this family

This resort was breathtakingly beautiful. We arrived at 3:40 and had to wait until almost 6 for our second room to be ready. There was no convenient place to park when registering for our room, we had to park in the parking deck and take an elevator to registration. When we have stayed in rooms before with an electronic bar, we were told upon check in. Even our older kids wanted to touch and look at the items. I hate an electronic bar also, because then you lose all use of the in room refridgerator. The coffee maker was fantastic. This is a lovely lovely place, but we found the other guests unfriendly, mostly very young executives. We were only here for one night, to put us closer to the airport and it was only an 11 minute trip to the airport. This is a better couples stay then for a family. Again though breathtaking facility.

Could Have Been Better!!!

This hotel is set at the base of the beautiful Camelback Mountains. I paid a premium to get this view only to have it blocked by two big trees. Not happy. The walk to the room is long from the parking lot. They have many golf carts on the property zipping past you on every occasion and was turned down for rides all but once. There is a sticker on the sliding door window (with a picture of a scorpion) that clearly states to keep the doors closed to keep out the desert dwellers. Upon returning to our room on a daily basis we found the door unlocked and on one occasion the door was open fully with the A/C wasting away. They used high quality materials to build with however the craftsmanship was not there. The tile abutting the front door was not level, leaving a 3/8" opening to the room. It certainly had me looking for desert dwellers and did not enjoy the mental anguish! They have a very young staff and were very apologetic, say when the bellman never showed , but offered no recourse. We were overcharged twice but coming armed with our [...]itinerary the charges were quickly reversed without further amplification. Upon checking out were were not given credit for spa treatment, but was caught in time.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

On one occasion we dined outside on premade hamburgers($18.00) and hotdogs($14.00). I understand that the hotels are in business to make a profit but dont make them hate you. I want to be a returning customer to the hotel. You can find deals on local dining in the local newspapers, which I did not see around.I may be on vacation but still need to keep up with daily events. We ate out good locally.

Get a deal or pass on this luxury

The room was a good size and tastefully decorated. The carpet was a bit of a mystery as I could not decide if it was stained and dirty or if the pattern just made it appear that way. The best thing about the room was the bathroom. Nice tub and shower. We paid for a full camelback view room and got a view of a wall, trees behind the wall and the top of camelback mountain. Never saw the view in photos provided by the hotel as the beautiful pool in the picture was closed for resurfacing. No advanced warning of this closure prior to our arrival. We were directed to the other pool on the property which was just your basic pool that can be found at any hotel. Overall the property was pretty although not stunning. There were rabbits all over the place. We would see at least 10 rabbits in the grassy areas each day. We didn't use the spa as $289 per massage seemed a bit pricey for everyone in my family to be able to enjoy this luxury. We have stayed at other resorts and this one just ranks as average. Thank goodness we got a good deal on this hotel. It is a nice place to stay if you can get it at a discount.
