Good place to stay

Robert at the front desk was very kind and knew what customer service was all about. my only complaint was that the sink was clogged but other than that the hotel was very good for the price I paid.

Bare necessities

Making accommodations for the BCS bowl game, I studied location, looked at the pictures, and read the reviews. Boy, was I disappointed! The Red Roof Inn was listed on "hotels near U of Phoenix stadium" as being 6.7 miles away; the distance was more than double that claim and across an interstate. The hotel and room pictures on the web must have been taken 15 years ago, although the same furniture, mattresses, linens and carpets are still there ---along with the dust around the baseboards. The 25 watt light bulbs saved on electricity but made the interior dim and depressing. The only amenities were a daily bar of bath soap and packet of shampoo. However, the friendly, helpful desk clerks and fellow guests (and our team's win) made an otherwise unpleasant stay bearable.

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

Phoenix public transit is non-existant and there are too few cabs for a big event. Also, the taxi drivers wanted to make runs toward the airport or Scottsdale, not to north Phoenix. Make reservations for a rental car before you leave home! When we got there and realized we needed a vehicle, all rentals in the city had sold out!

Comfortable and Clean

Hotel was clean and staff was very friendly. Room was average but nice and smelled really good :) We were a little nervous when we booked the room because some areas of Phx are questionable. Hotel was right off the freeway and in a good neighborhood which we were happy about. It was the most reasonable hotel we found on [...]at that time and would definitely stay again.

Great sports bar in the same parking lot as the hotel. Around 80 TVs and some really good food too.

close to the ballpark

The hotel was in a good location for access to all the Baseball spring training ball parks and had good affordable restaurants close by. I was taken back by the fact that I was paying $65.00 a night and the Red Roof sign out front said rooms were $44.95 so I will be waiting loyally by my mailbox for my cashback guarentee.

Excellent breakfast and dinner restaurants within walking distance so go ahead and have that second martini or glass of wine.
