We loved the ambiance in ...
We loved the ambiance in the hotel, it was exciting to stay at a place where Marilyn Monroe stayed and Humphry Bogart stayed. We loved the old hotel feel and felt fortunate to be able to stay there at such a reasonable rate. The room was small but comfortable, pay per view would have been nice. Over all it was a fun room with a nice view and great service! The Irish pub next door was a nice plus in our opinion! Very fun!! We had a great time! I hate fair food and I thought it would we would be able to get something to eat at the hotel, better quality, would be the pre requesit here!

Great downtown locale, lots of history
The Hotel San Carlos is a very old hotel with a gorgeous bar and restaurant. The classic old furniture, chandeliers etc.are a real treat. There are fine city views,a great third story pool, and the proximity to downtown sporting and concert venues is the best. We actually walked over to the Dodge Theatre for a concert. I did not enjoy the small size of the rooms, the paper thin walls, and the ten dollar a day parking fee. Overall we had a good experience and felt the value was fair. The rooms named after Hollywood Stars who had visited was cool.

Downtown Hotel History
This hotel is an awesome place to stay; not only is is close to all of downtown festivities no matter what you are there for; business or pleasure. The light rail is 1/2 block away and very inexpensive to ride. Taxi service is expensive. We spent one whole evening in the hotel just reading all the history of the hotel and checking out all the beautiful historical pictures (with explanation captions of event). The hotel staff was wonderful and the queen bed accomadations were a real plus. They were extremely comfortable. I would definately stay @ the San Carlos again and again.

there was a great Irish Pub directly right next door that served excellent food. Also there was a subway and small deli directly right across the street from San Carlos for those who don't like trying new things and are used to subway.

Very Charming
We stayed here because we attended a show at the Comerica theater which is just a few blocks away. The hotel is in a great location near several entertainment venues and hot spots downtown. The hotel was charming. The rooms are very basic, but we appreciated the architecture and history of the building. We had heard that it was "haunted" before our stay, but no paranormal activity to report. Great value for the location and the novelty of being a historical monument of Phoenix.

Nice old hotel right in downtown. Very cool and Pleasant in the room with nice a/c. Ceiling fan also. They were able to check us in about 3 hrs early no charge but it might have just been feasible at that time. Bathroom was laughably NARROW but functioned fine. Good experience

Decent, actually pretty darn decent
A cozy hotel. Small rooms, narrow hallways. But ya know, it has personality. Very professional staff. This hotel does show its age. In the shower, the water goes from hot to cold to hot. Get the picture? But the beds are top of the line, the room is clean, the little historical fru frus that dot the floors are interesting. You'll like this hotel.

In Hotel
The water dispenser by the ice machine on the 3rd floor is the place to get your water. It tastes much better than the tap water in the room.
