Sad Stay in AZ
Stayed for Funeral Service
Traveled with my family for a funeral service for my grandparents and while the location was close to funeral home, the hotel was not very desirable. The room was musty and had a strange smell. They provided only 2 towels for the room and when we requested more they questioned us like we not telling the truth. The coffee pot in room was damaged. The sofa sleeper was broken and the kids had to sleep on the floor with the blankets that we brought because the room had no additional bedding. When I signed into hotel they explained that they would hold $50 for any additional charges and would release when check out was completed. When I came home they had charged the $50 PLUS an additional charge for $100. I called to complain stating that they had no authorization to hold an additional $100. The manager could not give me an reason as to why but that they would release it. Now I have to wait an additional 5 days for $150 from them. Not pleased at all with my stay. Would not advise anyone to book with them. My parents stayed at San Marcus right down the street and loved it. The room there was only $15 more a night and would suggest paying the additional $15 to avoid staying at Hawthorne Suites.

great hotel, but had a room issue....
we arrived at the hotel in the evening, moved all of our belongings into the room, then headed down to the nice jacuzzi and exercise room. When we returned a few hours later, we were unable to get into our room because our key wasn't working. We made several trips back and forth to the front desk in wet, cold bathing suits at night, trying new keys only to find out that it was the lock that wasn't working! The front desk person said that he was the only one there and couldn't leave, he finally did come up to the room, his key didn't work either, and we ended up waiting in another room while the manager was called and then batteries were replaced in the door lock. About 11pm we finally were able to get into our room and change out of our bathing suits and eat dinner! The desk person was nice and apologetic, but seems there should be more than one person on at night, even for safety (and maintainence- he said he didn't even know there were batteries in the locks). We also didn't have Wi-fi in that room during our stay. It is hard to rate the hotel, because we did enjoy the time were weren't locked out of our room, and the hotel staff said they couldn't compensate us due to being a "pre-paid" room..... clearly a disadvantage in this case! Stayed in 2013, not an option below

we stood at many hotels and first time at this hotel and no elevators? We took our mother age 89 and my wife had knee surgery and had trouble walking up those stairs and mother too. I wont stay there again.

Was good
Hotel room needed the carpet to be shampooed BADLY. My 1 year old was crawling around and getting black knees and feet. Otherwise breakfast was good, plenty of options for the price, and over all a good deal.

Decent Value
This room was comfortable but quite dated. It was nice to have a kitchenette in the room with separate bedroom too. The furniture is old - the bed is rock hard but surprisingly not too uncomfortable. The staff was pleasant and friendly. I'd stay here again.

In town for a fencing competition
We booked a two bedroom suite and it was very spacious. It came with two bedrooms with a TV in each room, plus one in the small living room, which also had a small sofa bed. The kitchen came with everything you needed to make a meal. Hot breakfast was pretty good. All in all, a good value. Nothing fancy, but definitely had the space and amenities we needed. Even the pool was heated during the winter. One downside though...if you're on the second floor, get ready to lug your bags up a flight of stairs. We had a 40 lb fencing bag to carry up and that was no fun. If this is a problem, request a ground floor room.

Excellent Facility, Outstanding Staff!
Our only complaint, and a minor one at that, is there is no DVD player in the suite. That little issue aside, we were totally pleased with this hotel. The so-called continental breakfast is more like a full-menu breakfast served cafeteria style. It was great! Would have cost at least $20 for the two of us at a nearby restaurant, but this meal is included in the price of our room; truly a bargain. The suite was huge, and very well-furnished. The kitchen lacked for nothing. The housekeeping staff was terrific, as were the members of the desk crews. Especially noteworthy was the professionalism, attitude, and friendliness of Art. Art was the first desk representative of the hotel when we checked in, and he really set the tone for the rest of our stay; can't say enough positive things about him. All in all, this is one of the few places we've stayed that we would say, "We will stay here again, without checking any other options, when we are visiting the area again."
