Exceptional Value For Budget-Conscious Travel
Positives: Room was immaculate. Housekeeping was courteous, checked in at a reasonable hour, and kept the room more than adequately supplied. Desk staff was friendly and extra-helpful with an early check-in. Substantial variety of local and chain dining and shopping facilities literally within easy walking distance. Room rates were incredibly low. Negatives: Location is a bit removed from major regional sites for cab travel and entirely cut off from bus service, largely negating rate advantage for non-driving visitors. In-room "High-Speed" internet access is slightly less than "high-speed" (transfer speeds never exceeded double-digits).

simple, decent
The hotel was fine... that's how I would put it. the staff was friendly, the free breakfast was pretty decent. I did have a couple of little things... the cord for the phone was all over the floor, the maid did a very very basic job, missed some things and I was never asked for an ID when I had to get re-keyed (several times). Being a single person on a trip that is a huge safety issue. One front desk person said they could not help me with directions and did not even offer computer directed help, that was disappointing.

This hotel was a great money saver and not a bad drive to downtown Birmingham. It has fast food and sit down restaurants in the area and a mall up the street.

Need some work
We were in Birmingham to Christmas shop and have dinner with several friends while in town. We have stayed in this hotel in the past and the stay was plesant. However, this one was not. I requested my reservations for upper floor, end of hall, king bed. In this case we ended up with a double bed, handicap room beside the elevator and across the hall from the dining area. There was graduation at Alabama this weekend, the SWAC conference champsionship, and a state level cross country track meet. There were at least 75 teenagers running through the halls of the hotel and lots of partying. The high school teams took all their meals in the dining area and it sounded like a freight train running through the hotel. They stayed up most of the might and the noise was so great that we could hardly sleep, no ice, vending machines empty, etc... They were fully booked and could not provide an alternate room. There was also some restoration work going on at the hotel and they had 18 wheelers parked latteraly (near the entrance) in the parking lot which took up at least 15-20 parking slots. This required parking well away from the entrance and carrying stuff to and fro to the room. I would not go back to this hotel in the future.

Good hotel for price
Overall, I thought the hotel was a good place to stay. It was fairly clean and safe. The hallways were sort of musty, but the room had a nice smell. Could use a little paint.

For a smoker--paradise
Not the closest La Quinta to my destination, but the cheapest room rate. I would have gladly paid the extra $10 per night to be closer and have an odor free hotel.

Short drive from hotel
We were assigned a room, unpacked and noticed the toilet was broken . We called the front desk and we got a new room. We noticed the halls had not been vaccumed, obviously , in several days, cups and trash was also in the hallways We got in the new room, that toilet worked only after flushing 3 or 4 x's, the blanket was filthy!! We left the room the next day only to come back and the house cleaners had not been there. We again, called the front desk ONLY to be told the maids were gone. We had to get towels, etc and clean our own room. We were not compensated for our inconveniences: A very polite Desk lady said she was sorry. BEWARE of the this Establishment !!
