Good business stay

I stayed at the Best Western Kodiak for two nights in early November on a business trip (not many go to Kodiak in November for pleasure!). It's clean, but somewhat dated; for instance, the trim around my room door had nearly all the finish worn off. Getting to the room with luggage is a challenge; the hotel is built into the side of a mountain, and even if you take the elevator to the second floor, you have to navigate stairs through the breezeway, both down and then back up. Room was very comfortable, although not sound proof; I was awakened early by a neighbors' alarm one morning. Had a very good wifi signal in the room. Hot breakfast (included) was decent. Overall, a good experience; with a few tweaks the Kodiak Inn could be an outstanding hotel.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Just up the hill on Rezanof Drive is the Monk's Rock Coffehouse and Bookstore, run by students at the nearby Russian Orthodox seminary. Fantastic sandwiches on homemade breads, great pastries and pies, surrounded by books (mostly focused on orthodoxy and Russian history). Also a wonderful selection of Russian icons and religious items. Great food, great experience.
