Hotel was kind of hard to find. Small area to park with no addtional parking unless it was on the street. Room was very hot ... when I walked in. Asked where thermos was and was informed it was one temperature for the whole floor. Opened the window but was right above the road and it was very noisy. Ice machine was right across the hall and ran all night but didnt work. Told the front desk and they said they would work on it. Front desk seemed hassled when I told them they had made a mistake on my reservation and tried to bill me for two nights when I only booked for one and had the paperwork to prove it. I will not stay here again.

save money - forget the rental car. Lots of taxis in Juneau and from downtown you can walk everywhere in 5 minutes.

Tried capital cafe for lunch. You might as well go to mcdonald tro blocks away if u want a burger.

In summer, it doesn't get dark until after 10 p.m., yet most stores close down the same time they do in the lower 48. It still being light out, I almost felt that I should be doing something. You may feel the same. The downtown bars look downright dank and dirty, but the Baranof has a nice one.

Very basic but you cannot be too picky
J. Aug 1, 2009
I stayed there for one night for a weekend getaway. Very basic room and tiny. Orbits said one double one twin, and I was ... given a queen at checkin. The hotel is defintely tied but looked ok in comparision with other hotels around. Pls note there is no hotel shuttle in town. U need to taxi both ways for about 25 bucks each.

The Grand Old Lady
Gerry Jul 20, 2009
The Baranoff is located on North Franklin Street, and therefore close to the area's major activities and restaurants. I ... appreciated the desk in my room and the computer in the lobby for guests' use. The service and friendliness of the staff is first-rate. The rooms are small, but that shouldn't be a bother to a single traveller, so long as he's shorter than the bed! The bath/shower was clean and well-appointed. Alaska isn't cheap--that's the nature of the game, being so far north--but even then the restaurant prices looked high, so I didn't partake. The only unpleasantness I had was due to the heat wave at the time (70s); there is no A/C, so one opens a window to let in cool air, and with it, street noises.

Nice Location, Not the best in comfort
John Oct 10, 2008
Older hotel that has made some efforts to modernize. The staff was great, location (in the heart of downtown)is the best. ... However, the rooms / bathrooms are VERY small. No internet access in the rooms (WiFi or Wired), but you can lease a modem for your room for $10.00 per day... which seems insane these days. They do offer free wireless access in the lobby. The walls are very thin... I could hear nearly every word, cough, and movement my neighbors made. The desk in the room was more of a nesting occasional table and didn't provide a very good work area. The TV was small... 19 or 21 I think. Also, the heating system is a boiler system which basically translated no individual thermostat control in the room. I had to sleep every night with the window open to mitigate the 80 degree + room temperature. This was in the fall with 40 degree temps outside. All in all I think there are plenty of rooms in town with better value, better amenities, and would make for a more comfortable business trip. That said, if you are looking for a unique vacation spot to spend a night while on vacation... don't mind a small room fooprint... and are looking for a hotel within walking distance of the downtown area this might work for you.

The location couldn't have been better for staying in Juneau without a rental car; however, the hotel staff seemed to be ... lacking in experience and professionalisam. We were also disappointed that we were given a room at the back of the hotel without an ocean view.

A good short stay venue
Larry Jul 11, 2008
The Hotel is located in a central location in Juneau, so it makes it easy to get around sightseeing. The Dining Room (Gold ... Room) is excellent with a nice variety of selections. The King Size room we had was minimal in size and amenities. The view was almost non-existent from the 3rd floor room we had.

Great city hotel
chuck Sep 14, 2007
Nothing to complain about here. Right in downtown Juneau, the Baranoff is central to everything in Juneau. Our room was fine ... - clean and comfortable, if a bit on the small side. My only complaint was that wireless internet was available only in the lobby, or wired internet was available for $10.50 per day in the room. Charging for internet is a definate no-no in my book. Luckily, there were several residential open access points that I could use.
