McKinley Chalet Resort

Nice hotel but the price should be lower. Also, there was bad lighting in the area, which makes it difficult to find the building your assigned to. Parking is an issue as well. But it is located in a fantastic area. Can't beat the view.

Everything is relative. In a city, this hotel would be a 2 star at most, but I am giving it 3 stars because it is in Denali. Relative to other hotels in Denali it is a good one. The use of the term "resort" is misleading. It is not what I think a resort is. The hotel is expensive, but so are most properties in Denali. The amenities are on the light side. The bed was surprisingly comfortable. The location is great. The shuttle service to the park was very dependable, but shut down much too early-6:30 p.m.-particularly, since the sun does not go down until after midnight and the park has tours and events that ended much later than 6:30 p.m.

We spent two nights there. We liked the hotel but it would be much better if the parking space was bigger and also closer to each room.

Chalets were pretty quiet. The bedroom did not have adequate curtains to block the light; we had to tape ours down. Rooms were clean, but pretty basic. Had a double and a single bed in same room. Supposed to sleep extras in anteroom on sleeper sofa, but bathroom was inside the bedroom. Not really an issue for us, but could be for folks traveling with others. Only able to access beds from one side (pushed against walls). Customer service support was great, including shuttle service. Close to Denali park and within walking distance of shops/restaurants. Amenities not in chalet buildings (ours was 12 rooms to a building), but scattered throughout the resort. Room access from outside. Walk-up to second floor.

The cost was pretty reasonable considering the time of year and location. The rooms are decent sized with two full beds and a seperate seating area. The bathroom was clean and tidy but could have been a bit bigger. The location was ideal as almost all the tours you might want to take pick you up right from the lobby and that was mighty convenient. It has a coffe shop, cafe and also a restaurant on site but remember the food is not cheap in any way as it is all over Alaska and more so in Denali. Overall it was value for money.

The hotel was really good. Everything was in place. Housekeeping was great. Could not ask for more. But as I was alone, I payed more than I could afford for a room with 2 beds. I would definitely recommend this for a family. I did not like the food in the Cafe, very much.
