Top of the world, not too shabby
I've stayed in a variety of hotels in Barrow, include a dorm for visiting scientist. Top of the World is as close to Western standard chain hotel as it comes in Alaska. When you're in the room you could be in Phoenix or Phillidelphia, you'd never know until you looked out the window. If you're a little skittish about heading out to the arctic, you might find some comfort in being able to end each days adventures with a little bit of familiar comfort. The staff there are friendly and informative. It's located right on the beach, next to 3 notable eateries, and is within walking distance (6 blocks) of the airport terminal.

Sam&Lee's Restaurant open 6a-1a daily... nice little mom and pop shop with the best food (any kind) available. After you've dined at famous Pepe's mexican restaurant... eat the rest of your meals at Sam&Lee's.
