Captain James Cook helped define Alaska in the 18th century by mapping its jagged coastline for the first time. Since 1965, the Hotel Captain Cook has defined luxury in Alaska by offering a level of elegance and comfort unparalleled across the state. As Alaska's sole member of the Preferred Hotel Group, the Hotel Captain Cook pays honor to Alaska's storied history by displaying murals and artifacts depicting the voyages of Captain Cook from centuries past, and also embraces the cutting edge of contemporary service, from the heralded Crow's Nest to its legendary wine cellar. Set in downtown Anchorage, the Hotel Captain Cook provides a comfortable launching pad for exploring Alaska's natural wonders, but also makes it tempting to stay put and simply enjoy the panoramic views while indulging in the excellent dining, shopping and Athletic Club.

Hotel great, orbitz not so much
idk Jul 23, 2009
The hotel was great and within walking distance of the shoppping area. Staff was courteous and helpful. However, confusion ... about my reservation and payment through orbitz (that never made it to the hotel) damped the experience. I would definitely stay here again but book on the hotel's website.

The hotel is in an ideal location within walking distance to restauants and shopping. Rooms are updated and have some have ... nice views of the water or mountains. The hotel has been here for years and is a downtown landmark. I would recommend staying here.

Rent bicycles at 4th street and ride the numerous bike trails - including the Coastal Trail. Take the busses (from the metro center on 5th) for an interesting scene and easy/cheap way to get to places.

Front Desk was just excellent help (better than concierge). Staff in stores were very nice and helpful. Place was clean and ... very convenient to downtown and busses. Free Wireless was great. Do not like having to pay for exercise room.

Captains Deck
Paul Mar 3, 2009
We stayed on the captains Deck, 17th floor, excellent staff, very nice. the room was a lot smaller than i expected, as was ... the shower. Excellent view of the inlet, and we could see mt. mckinnly from our room. We ate at the Crows nest, highly recommend it. Excellent food. All together, made for a wonderful night, room service 24/7 to the captains deck aswell. Recommend the Fruit platter with Champagne. If you do stay in the Captains deck ask for a larger room, or corner room with view of the inlet. I was in a middle room, average size room of most regular hotels.

Alot of money for what you get
james May 26, 2008
Besides the great view from the hotel room if you are lucky enough to get one that over looks the water it wasn't worth the ... price. There are several dining options in the hotel all very spendy. These room don't offer anything different then the local holiday express except a robe which really isn't all the comfortable.

A wonderful experience!
Jean Sep 5, 2007
The Hotel Captain Cook was run like a well-oiled machine! The ambience was perfect. The staff were professional and ... friendly. The room was very comfortable, pleasantly decorated, with the finest of linens. We utilized the wireless internet services, which was easily explained in the hotel directory of services. We utilized room service. It was very fast and the food was great. We also used the services of the bellmen for luggage, and they too, were fast and efficient. The shops, restaurants, and lounges were all excellent, as were the staff. We enjoyed every moment we stayed and were sad to have to leave. We would definitely stay there again!
