Captain James Cook helped define Alaska in the 18th century by mapping its jagged coastline for the first time. Since 1965, the Hotel Captain Cook has defined luxury in Alaska by offering a level of elegance and comfort unparalleled across the state. As Alaska's sole member of the Preferred Hotel Group, the Hotel Captain Cook pays honor to Alaska's storied history by displaying murals and artifacts depicting the voyages of Captain Cook from centuries past, and also embraces the cutting edge of contemporary service, from the heralded Crow's Nest to its legendary wine cellar. Set in downtown Anchorage, the Hotel Captain Cook provides a comfortable launching pad for exploring Alaska's natural wonders, but also makes it tempting to stay put and simply enjoy the panoramic views while indulging in the excellent dining, shopping and Athletic Club.

Great, but no air conditioning

The hotel was very nice, however, there was no air conditioning, and it happened to be a nice sunny, warm day and evening. One bed was located right under the ceiling fan and next to windows, however, other bed was quite warm. From Texas and used to sleeping in really cool air conditioning, so this was a problem for me. This was a holiday week-end and restaurant on top level was closed as was some of the shops, but the shops and restaurant that was open was very nice. The staff was very accomodating and let us have a late check-out as we had a late flight out.

Captian Cook Hotel - Great Service

Captain Cook's staff is great. They accomdated my requests, responded to my questions and needs immediately. I asked for an early check in and the room was ready when I arrived. No problem when I needed an extra hour to get out. Concierge was so helpful, great restaurant recommendations, cab company numbers by heart and I watched as he helped several others just as effeciently. Housekeeping staff was polite, room was clean and comfortable. They need more current movies and a larger cable selection of channels (if its available in Alaska). Room has a ceiling fan - no A/C but window opens and air is cool in Summer so with ceiling fan it was great. Clean bathroom, mini refrigerator (no sodas in it but you can stock it). 24 Hr Room Service. Coffee maker in room with coffe and tea. Softer and more pillows would be great - didn't ask but sure they would have provided, wish they were in the room. Robe is avail in the room- iron, ironing board, Bath products, and great towels.

Best in ANC

Great property, excellent location, superior level of service without making me feel "over-served", unique shops on site and the best meal in Anchorage hands down at the Crow's Nest. I have a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Administration (now a fishing guide/bum)and I am relatively critical. The Captain Cook was perfect

Hotel great, orbitz not so much

The hotel was great and within walking distance of the shoppping area. Staff was courteous and helpful. However, confusion about my reservation and payment through orbitz (that never made it to the hotel) damped the experience. I would definitely stay here again but book on the hotel's website.
