Helpful

Fabulous service - everyone went above & beyond! My check in was after midnight, they made sure I had everything I could need/want, they even took care of parking my car for me in the middle of a snow storm.

Nothing but disappointment

Seriously disappointed. I couldn't check in upon arrival, ok, I was about an hour before check in time...yet I watched as 14 other people checked in. But when 25 minutes after check in time I still couldn't check in- that's just bad service. Move forward to the desk clerks promise to provide me vouchers for the "continental breakfast" - wait a minute I paid for club level, I get the breakfast anyway- good thing though cause when I finally could check in - no vouchers, the clerk was gone for the day, and no one was aware that I had had any issues checking in, and ignored me when I tried to talk to them about it. Nothing to compensate for having been inconvenienced by more than 2 hours and having to attend a professional function in the same clothes I had traveled in for 18 hours. The club level is somehow not on the floor I was given a room, ok not that big of a deal, I got a pin for the elevator. But, when I got there that evening - no plates, just a tray of dried cheese, crackers, no staff to be seen and almost 2 hours left to the ONLY 3 hour window the club lounge was scheduled to be open. I waited around drinking a water for about 30+ minutes before I left - no one ever showed up to check on the status of the lounge or the refreshments. Beware: Internet is not free. Also, it is not secure. There is no security on their internet, no passcode for access, as long as you pay they are happy. And once you have paid, that is it there is no more service to be found. As I was walking one of my bags to my rental car, a woman with a clipboard and staff nametag was standing outside my door, apparently to ask me how much longer it would be till I checked out. Checkout time was noon, this happened at 9am. When I did check out, around 1015, I again tried to speak to the desk manager regarding the problems I had checking in, and the state of the 'club level' which didn't change substantially either in the morning for breakfast, or the evening. Although, in the morning, this small room was crawling with screaming kids and very little to actually eat. Best thing I can say about this hotel was it was pretty to look at, the lobby is nice and ornamental. Housekeeping did a good job keeping the room clean. It is conveniently located. And the bedding/pillows are very comfortable. The bathroom is freakishly small, and you can not open the door all the way with out it hitting the shower curtain rod.

Wonderful experience at the Sheraton AK

We arrived tired after hours of traveling. There was a small mix up in rooms but after fixing it the desk manager moved our room to the 14th floor so we would have a better view since it was our first time in Alaska. The front desk manager also helped us rent a car and recommended places to make sure and see during our travel. We ate in the restraunt one night and it was honestly the best meal we ate during our whole trip. The hotel was VERY clean and extrememly helpful.

Sheraton Anchorage

The rooms were pretty and the beds were great. There is not really a view because it is in the middle of the city. Also, on one side of the hotel is a cemetery. But this hotel is very close to everything and can be walking distance to restaurants and the mall and shops. There is no pool, which was a little disappointing. We had fun anyway because we were trying to get away for a little while. The lobby is beautiful and the restaurants smelled good, but we did not go to either of them. Their coffee is from Starbucks and tea is from Tazo. It is one of the top few hotels in Anchorage as far as my opinion.

room was nice

People at the front desk were snooty. None of them in the hotel were very friendly. I wish I didn't have to pay for parking. Even though it was snowing and 15 degrees outside, I had to keep the A/C on in my room because they keep the hotel too hot. When I was at the bar, I thought I was going to to faint from the heat, I had to call it an early night. It was just too hot The bathrooms were okay to good. The room was very nice Also, I don't appreciate having to pay for internet, however, I was able to receive it for free for some reason despite the front desk telling me that they were going to charge me for it.

Nightlife tip: Long walk from hotel

The hotel is on the same street as many bars/restaurant but it's too far to walk when it's 15 degrees outside so you either have to drive (but you can't drink because the cops are very strict and there is a lot of ice on the road; and the ice is slippery in Anchorage), or you have to take a taxi

What are the odds?

One year ago, we checked into this hotel and went to our room only to find someone inside. We had to go back to the desk, explain, and get another room. Now, a year later, it happened again. We got our key, went to the room, opened the door and found a man on the bed wondering what we were doing there. This time when we went to the desk, a security man went to our new room to make sure it was empty. To their credit, he came back five minutes later with two free breakfast vouchers for the next morning. They say they spent millions on renovations. We noticed the change on lighting fixtures in the ballroom which used to be uniquely Alaskan, to generic Sheraton fixtures found everywhere. The lobby was also made somewhat Sheraton generic. It looked much better before. There was no difference in the room though. Scratches on the tables, window sills, etc. and the small bathroom showing a bit of age now. The bed was great, except for the pubic hair that was on the bedspread. It was only one, but still, not something you want to find before you pull the sheets up. This hotel has seen better days and there are newer places to stay in Anchorage. I'm not saying "stay away" but you might want to weigh your options. *Note that they also charge for in-room wireless and parking.

Had it not been free, we would not have eaten at the Jade in the hotel, as it's a tad pricey. Still, the breakfast was very good, as was the service.

Poor service

I requested a king bed. I arrived and they said they didnt have any available and that they cannot guarantee a request on bed size from [...]. They said I should come back the next night (last day of our stay) and see if there was a king available. What do you know, there was one available and the man I talked to then said he didnt know why we couldnt have a king the first night. Also, the lobby area is beautiful (one reason I opted to stay there) but the rooms are not nearly as nice. Our rooms had mold growing in the grout in the showers. Not impressed at all and I wont be staying there again.

Anchored in Anchorage

[...] When I searched for a place to stay in Anchorage my thought was to find a place close to the downtown area thus, not needing a rental car. We are 8 to 10 blocks from the city's center. If we were older travelers walking this distance could prove daunting. However, we are traveling with our 12 year-old son, and the Anchorage Museum is just four blocks away. We plan to visit this afternoon. Another, remarkable landmark not mentioned in the [...] review is the very large cemetery juxtaposed to the hotel. The map handed out by the hotel identifies the place of rest in picture only. Noted, there is no number nor is it identified. Really? -Babbette Tyler

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

The Glacier Brewhouse is well worth the walk. Be sure to get a beer if walking it will keep you warm, and they have five flag-ship bears to choose from. Food is very good! Staff and service displayed a warm courteous manner. This place was recommended to us by our daughter, Jen. The barbecued salmon dish is delicious. Frank, my husband ordered an extra dish of fries. Just do it! Enjoy.

Courteous Staff

The hotel staff were very courteous, especially when informing us of the additional $10 daily parking fee, and the $10 daily internet access. They were also very prompt in sending Security to our floor when we called about the late night partyers coming in at 1:00 am.
