An old motel

Exercise Room-The elliptical & weight machine were old and didn't work. The maid only cleaned 1/2 of the room one day. The ... first room we were in had a very noisy heater so we had to move. Most restaurants are within short walking distance (a couple of small city blocks) and very easy to get to. Be prepared as we found the food part of the trip the most expensive.

It was a great spot. Everthing was within walking distances. My son was on crutches and they offered us the free use of a ... wheel chair while we were there. The drive who picked us up and dropped us off was really great - proved very good information and pointed out things that we should do. The front desk personnel where also great.

The Ramada Inn is a moderate sized hotel for Anchorage and located on the north side of town, about a 10-15 min walk from the ... center. They had a hearty complimentary breakfast with make-it-yourself waffles, cereal, juices, and breads. There is also a 24 hr complimentary shuttle to/from the airport or the downtown Egan Convention Center. The rooms were clean and good-sized, with refrigerator, microwave and satellite TV.

Breakfast is served from 6am till 10am. Eat a late breakfast and maybe you can hold out until dinner. With the prices in Alaska, it can be a good savings.

The bad and the good
arf Aug 17, 2009
When I arrived late at night I was given a dreadful room on the ground level facing the street. It was very noisy, dismal, ... dirty and had not been renovated in a very long time. HOWEVER, the next morning I requested a room on the 2nd or 3rd floor away from the street. The staff was very accommodating and moved me to a 3rd floor room that had every amenity needed for a pleasant stay the remaining five days that I was there. It is an older hotel, but the second room I stayed in was very adequate, with microwave, refrigerator, iron and ironing board, hair dryer, TV, etc. They only offer a "continental" breakfast bar; however, it is easy walking distance to downtown Anchorage with many restaurants and shopping available, as well as tourist activities.

I live in Las Vegas, Nv, and I guess when you come from a tourist town, you think a hotel of the same name is comparable. ... Definitely not the case! Although the staff were reasonably knowledgeable and courteous, the hotel was old, carpets dirty, and not very clean. There were open beer bottles in the hall, and the weather stripping on the bottom of the doors was coming off! I wouldn't recommend this hotel. Also, housekeeping never cleaned my room once during my entire stay (4 days). I was busy in meetings all day, and I admit I did have clothes all over the bed, but does that prevent one from cleaning the floors, vacuuming, or at least cleaning the tub?????!!!!! Oh, and check in isn't until 3pm, and check out is at 11:00am. Most hotels are at noon, and give the option of a late check out! This hotels late check out was 11:30am! At least they held my luggage until my flight left!

At the Ramada downtown in Anchorage it was very nice. The rooms were smaller then expected but the town made up for it. I ... would recommend this hotel to anyone that ever come to Anchorage. I loved the hotel staff. The staff told me of things to do in town and where to go to see animals. They also informed me that you should have extra things in the car if you are to break down and overall I loved my stay here.

Great basic room
Camery Sep 28, 2008
The staff was nice and eager to help, although they were texting and following the football game on their phones when I ... approached the desk. The room was clean and basic and was stocked with all of the essentials. The breakfast was way more than I was expecting, it was GREAT! The gym is fine and I was the only one I ever saw actually use it. The only complaint I really have is with the business center. The computers/internet were painfully slow and even crashed at one point. I was REALLY counting on that business center and I had to make other arrangements while I was in town to get my work done. They have recently remodeled and it looks pretty good. I would recommend this hotel to anyone in town needing a good, basic room. Noting luxurious but it did the job! Oh, also, no room service or on-site restaurant.

The Ramada Downtown Anchorage was a very nice hotel but located a few blocks from all the restaurants. They had had a ... restaurant on the premises but it had closed. The good thing about it was they had a shuttle service to a few places in town and if you needed a pickup, you just had to call them and they would come and pick you up. The staff was very cordial to us and treated us like family!
Traveler type: Couples
There is a high hill up the street from the hotel so if you have trouble with hills, don't walk up that way. Take the side road, go up a few blocks, and then walk up the street that isn't hilly. There are only two hilly streets right near the hotel.

This hotel is only a few blocks from downtown Anchorage, and all of the tourist attractions/shopping there. It's also very close to the Army/Navy store (for those up for work); a bit further but still in walking distance is Humpy's restaurant/bar (highly recommended).
