Qupqugiaq Inn is a remarkable, beautiful, and affordable hotel. The hotel has twenty five rooms with private or shared baths, and prices to fit all budgets. Each room has high speed internet access, phones with voice mail, and satellite television with HBO. Our lovely common area has a free cyber bar, a full kitchen, an Alaska travel resource area, and a large dining and conversation area. Downstairs is a cafe with authentic Turkish food. Special activities include barbeques every night from 6 PM - 11 PM, breakfast available at a nominal charge that includes personally flaked oatmeal, and our own 24 hour bread milled in our kitchen, and movies and documentaries in our mini theater. We are also creating a Conscious Alaskan business network, to help connect travelers with meaningful travel opportunities. Much more than just an affordable hotel, our guests enjoy a truly special experience with interiors that boast organic, unusual architecture, flowing, asymetric curves handmade tiles and steamed oak, handcrafted and antique furniture. Striking additional features include a remarkable tree of understanding and action, with tools for exploring fundamental questions about oneself and society, counters made from stone from the gold mine at Hatchers pass, Lebanese mosaics on the floors, and educational mini libraries in each room. We use natural cleaning products and recycle. Located in midtown Anchorage, Qupqugiaq is close to the main public library, movie theaters, laundromats, restaurants and shops. We are just 10 minutes to the airport or downtown, and on the bus route. There is no place quite like Qupqugiaq Inn. We hope that the artistry of the building expresses a spirit of care that you will enjoy during your stay with us. Qupqugiaq mixes modern amenities with rustic Alaskan charm, and a strong vision for a thoughtful lodging experience.

WOW! Pleasant Surprise!

This was my first time staying in this type of facility, i.e., Hostel. I was pleasantly surprised by my accommodations! It was just what I needed for the quick trip I was on. It reminded me of dormlife, or staying at someone's house in the spare room. I was comfortable!

affordable, conveniently located

I stayed for 2 nights while visiting Anchorage. The hotel was clean and had free wifi throughout. The staff were all friendly. The hotel is in a great location, very easy to get to a lot of places there. There is an attached Mexican restaurant and great dining across the street as well. The only down side is the rooms don't have their own bathrooms. You have to share with other visitors-although each bathroom is a single unit, so the showers can't be as clean as they would be in the rooms.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

A new restaurant just opened in the shopping center across the street, called "Larry's Cocoon". The service was excellent as was the Asian food. They have a great selection of beverages, including beer and wine. I will definitely go back if I'm in Anchorage again.

A very decent place and price

Staff are helpful when you approach them. Room facilities are fine. They have a desktop in the lobby for those who don't bring a laptop along, or those who don't use iPhone. Easily accessible by public buses. The only thing that I can complain about is that people can walk past the windows of my room, and so I didn't feel comfortable to leave the window open, even I had pulled the blind down. The owners and staff have high level of social awareness. That's a good thing too, thou not exactly relevent to a hotel review.

Quaint and a bit odd

The Inn was located close to many mass transit stops which took you directly downtown. There was a nice park nearby also which was great for simply enjoying a lazy afternoon. The office was hard to find and not very well marked. The front desk woman was a bit of a mess, though. I waited 15 minutes at the window while she chit-chatted and took care of some "business" in the office. The Inn's policy to check ID for everyone who is coming and going was fine, except the same woman made my co-lodger wait almost 30 minutes before she check the ID. The shared bathrooms were clean and provided adequate privacy as they were single shower rooms (not stall style). There was free computers/internet access which was convenient but the kitchen situation was a bit odd as the food was only available for guests who had taken the rooms with private bathrooms. Overall, the stay was good, the bed was comphy, the atmosphere was co-op like, and I would consider staying there again when in Anchorage.

cheap nights sleep in Anchorage

there were 4 adults and the roll away bed was bad, too soft and had plastic covering so the person sweated all night, finally got up and slept on the floor, bathroom sink in room not inside bathroom. Had to move floor rug to close bathroom door. But two of the beds were clean, crisp sheets and comfortable. The hotel is old, but the price was right. I would stay there again without the roll away! And bring my own breakfast food. coffee was good.

Find another hotel

I decided to stay seeing as we needed 4 hours sleep. It's not in the best location. The street noise was drowned out by the Irish dancers in the room above. The Lysol spray in the room made a nice air freshener. My daughter had the single bed but slept on top of the comforter with her clothes on after the sheets were full of dirt. I asked for a 2am wake up call which never came and made us late to our fishing trip in Talkeetna. P.S. watch your speed in Wasilla.
