Accosted by prostitutes
Terrible experience! Filthy hotel, prostitutes were hanging out all over the lobby bothering the patrons walking through, dangerous hotel location. [...] Stay at your own risk.

"the Bates Motel"
The positive The hotel was located near an older downtown area that had tons of shops and restaurants etc... all within easy walking distance. The negatives The hotel was located in a "run down, bad part" of downtown. We did not feel safe leaving the car in their extremely limited parking lot. Hotel did not look like that as pictured [...] and did not even have any signs on the building anywhere saying it was even a hotel, much less a Howard Johnson's. Parking was extremely limited to two rows closest to the motel, all other parking was metered parking with no discount or pass if you didn't get a place in the other parking. Hotel hallway carpets had large black stains on the 3rd floor anyway. Hotel had only one set of elevators and they operated very slowly. Hotel was set up in odd array of steps here and there making it diffucult to get baggage from elevators to rooms. Tea bags would have been nice in the rooms along with the coffee. The ironing board cover was very stained and needed to be cleaned. One day we were not given a bath mat. Had a much better hotel on another trip that was a package deal- room, car and flight.

Short walk from hotel
Best not to be done in the evenings as lots of shady characters began to emerge. Some downtown alley ways reeked of human urine.

Not a very good experience for the amount of money I paid. Musty rooms hard bed no breakfast no wash cloths in one room no towels in another I guess we were supposed to share. At 170 a night I expected more.

Worst place I ever stayed
The room is in a very bad condition and is badly maintained. The moment you enter the motel you will notice, how bad is the customer service. The room they gave to us is almost 1/5 mile walk from the lobby, well good if you really want some walking. Though it says parking is free, it is free only for 20 cars the rest have to take their cars to the paid lots (the good part - the paid lots are close by), I never found a free parking spot in my 3 days stay. Do not go to the motel if you really want an "Alaska Vacation".

Not entirely happy
For being in a prime location in the downtown, very next to the port of anchorage, you would expect something nice out of it..but we were not entirely happy with the room(2 queen beds). The linens were dirty and the beds were smaller than queen. The room was stuffy and there was a lingering odor. The price was more than it deserved for 3 nights.
