Relaxation between Cruise & Denali trip

Very nice small older hotel which has been updated ... friendly staff ... very clean ... excellent "continental" breakfast in former bar area of hotel. We were in one of the "backside" rooms and the window view directly over the alley and roofs wasn't too great ... but we did well relax a day and two nights before moving on to Denali. We would be pleased to return when/if in Anchorage!

Classic Style

It is right off 4th Street, the main drag. Everyone was very helpful and the breakfast buffet is good (no eggs or sausage or bacon, though). But there is a bar/nightclub across the street and it is very noisy Thursday through Saturday nights - you can hear the thumping bass through the walls.

The Place to BE

this is a A-ONE place to stay---the help went out of the way to help us. [...] the evening clerk is a real asset to this hotel---but everyone one else was also most helpfull.---The rooms were better than expected for an old hotel (National landmark)in fact better than most new places.

Great location and Great Service

This hotel is a great alternative to the chain options as it has character from being around for so long. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The location is perfect as it is close to everything in downtown Anchorage. Although the bar is no longer used for anything but the continental breakfast, there are plenty of options nearby to get a nightcap. For out-of-towners though, be aware that in the summer months the locals stay out late and it's on a busy street corner. Altogether though, I would not have wanted to stay anywhere else.

Disappointed

Our experience was very limited. My adult daughter and I stayed only one night on our way through Anchorage to Seward. Consequently, our very small room (with 2 queen sized beds) and bathroom were not the problem they would have been if we were to unpack and stay awhile. There were no screens on the windows (and no air conditioning). So we hesitated to leave them open - and then the human noise late into the night from a nearby bar made this out of the question. Our room was on the second floor in the front. On the positive side, the railroad depot is within walking distance, and the hotel offers an early complimentary breakfast.

Nice, but parking limited

The lobby of this hotel was very nice, as well as the cleanliness and furniture in the room. Also the complimentary breakfast was better than average - you can make your own waffles. The room was small and warm in July (but this was typical of all hotels in which we stayed- no AC). The hotel has no parking lot, so if you arrive late and tired as we did, it's somewhat of a hassle to park.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

This is a great place to stay if you plan to stop by the market on Saturday or Sunday. Also, shops, food, and clubs are nearby.
