Go downtown, rent a bike and take the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. Beautiful scenary, takes you into the forested area and we saw three moose on the trail to Kincaid Park! More than we saw in Denali! $16 for the first 3 hours and $4 for each additional hour after. Can't get much cheaper for great fun, physical exercise, and a glimpse of Alaskan wilderness and wildlife.

Nice Hotel-with concerns
Warren Aug 25, 2009
The good: A relatively new hotel that is nice to enter and pleasant to stay in. Pricey but very quiet, it is located near ... shopping and restaurants but not near downtown Anchorage. Nice breakfast and a nice lounge for an evening drink. Comfortable beds and a HUGE tub. The Bad: Serious concerns about hotel security as my wife was accosted by a drug dealer in the rear courtyard. When I brought this to their attention both desk personnel that I spoke to said, in a rather nonchelant response,"Oh yeah, there from the bus station next door." The rear entrance to the hotel was right next to the elevators. The card key protected door was unlocked every evening allowing anyone access to the hotel unseen by the desk staff. We stayed for almost a week and housekeeping never vaccumed our room. The hotel is shaped like a U with the opening facing train tracks about 200 yards away but fortunately the trains are infrequent. The computers in the business center didn't work and the desk staff while friendly was relatively ineffective at servicing our needs.

Disappointed
AanahJ Jul 25, 2009
We have stayed at this hotel numerous times and it was always one of our favorite hotels... we were very disappointed in it ... this time. For the price, the service of the front staff should have been better. If this is the direction the hotel is moving, we will no longer choose it as our place to stay and will no longer recommend it to others.

Close to the freeways
Will and Eve Jul 18, 2009
This was our first time to Alaska so we stayed in Anchorage because it seemed like a central point for the activities we had ... planned. The hotel location is close to the freeways that take you downtown, north towards Denali National Park and Fairbanks, and south to the Kenai Peninsula. We were very happy with the hotel. Comfortable bed, great tub, good size room, quiet, friendly staff. The hotel is kind of tucked in the back of a parking lot next to Walmart, kind of a weird spot for a hotel, but that's about the worst thing I can say about this hotel.

Nice Hotel, Very clean and spacious and comfortable room - very nice Bed and large usable bath and shower for hannicap as ... reguired. Failed Orbitz reservation on record at the Hotle led to alteritive travel to the Hotel for elder wife and paid for on seperat account????? the Hotel had accomidations for her untill I could arrive - but Orbitz fail to or hotel fail to coridnate this action. The Stress and extra discomfort leaves a bad taste with us for Orbitz/Diamond Hotel. All worked out OK - took a few emails and some phone calls to get both Charges combined to 1, only, 45 days or so - but .... unexpetabale - on both behalf! I would recomend the rooms at Diamond, but not the booking thu Orbitz with this location. We, have used orbits before with fine results.. but with Diamond Hotel, not to smooth ????????

In the Top Ten Hotels in Anchorage
elo Apr 23, 2009
Anchorage is our gateway to where we are going, which usually involves a many hour plane ride. We like to fly into Anchorage ... early and stay at the hotel until time to go back to the airport. My husband likes to take a soak in their spa size tub which has folded doors that open to view their large TV. My daughter and I like to go to the big Diamond Mall which is a block away. The free breakfast is great and a nice way to meet other hotel guests. The shuttle service is a plus, especially in the winter when driving a rental car is less than desirous. Staff are nice, especially van drivers. The only negative experience I have ever had at this hotel is the flucuation in their pricing for the same room.

Terrific place to stay!
Diane Sep 17, 2008
The Dimond Center Hotel was wonderful! The bed was super . . .not the usual rock hard bed that most hotels have. . the ... sheets were high count cotton with a down comforter. And the soaking tub in the bathroom was great! Just what we needed after a long day of travel. It was just minutes from the airport. . not a great part of Anchorage but we really weren't there long enough to check out the neighboring stores. We will definitely stay there the next time we are in town.

Don Jul 29, 2008
The carpet was worn, the rooms were very dark and the bathroom arrangement poor. It was very pricey. To be fair, however, ... the bed was wonderful. It was comfortable and softer than most hotel beds. There was a shuttle service to the airport and that was very helpful. Downtown required either a taxi or public transportation.

Great Hotel but watch the help!
Bernard Jun 9, 2007
The Dimond Ctr Hotel was very comfortable, the rooms were very well appointed and furnished. My wife and I would stay ... again. The value is very good. We made the mistake of arriving after midnight. Unfortunatly, the shuttle took 45 mins to come get us....a ten minute drive. Upon arrival we were bombarded with the front desk persons outrage that Starbucks refuses to send coffee to our troops in Iraq, and that we should not buy there. The Starbucks in our neck of the woods shows our troops drinking their coffee in pictures on the walls of our local shop. Great Hotel...just arrive during the day and not late at night. The day staff were very friendly and attentive.

Dimond in the rough

This is a lovely property in an unattractive location (which happened to be extremely convenient for me). Room was spacious, ... well-appointed with luxury touches. Staff courteous and helpful--such as finding a huge vase for the tulips I arrived with. Bathroom enormous with a grand soaking tub. The location, smack in the middle of the Dimond Center parking lot, is no thrill unless you need to be shopping in the Dimond Center or have other reasons to be in this part of Anchorage.

Valerie May 27, 2007
The rooms are spacious, and beautifully designed and decorated. The beds are very comfortable, both mattress and linens, as ... well as pillows. They provide large, thicky, comfy robes. And the bathtubs are the very best part, they are huge and in the spa rooms they are jetted. Highly recommend this hotel. Also staff was great.

The Dimond Hotel Anchorage was very comfortable. The room provided a desk with wireless internet, two chairs, one lounging ... chair, a nice sized closet, dresser, and a huge television. The 4 cup coffee maker was conveniently located above a microwave and mini refrigerator. I liked that the bathroom had separate shower stall and tub, which was huge, and two vanity areas. The bed was the most comfortable hotel bed I have ever slept in, and I especially liked the fluffy down comforter. Restaurants and a mall were conveniently near.

The Dimond mall with its indoor icerink, gym, and many stores was right next door. Walmart was also near, very convenient for last minute needs.
