Business trip

The room was very small not sure it would suit two people spending much time in there. Luckily it was only me in the room. The staff were great bit of mix up with the bill but that was soon sorted by bookers (once I had proved the issue to them)

one night stay

Second time to stay at the Duke of Cornwall while taking my son back to university. The creaking floor boards and old sash windows adds to the caricature of this large old hotel. Enjoy the open fire in the lounge bar and magnificent grand staircase. Paid £52 for the night and had the option to pay an extra £12 each for breakfast.

Grand....but fading

We spent four days at the Duke of Cornwall and were impressed by the imposing building and rather tired, fading grandeur. We liked the location, handy for everything and were also impressed by the room, (a superior) which was was comfortable, nicely decorated, spacious and well equipped. The bathroom could have done with a blind at the window. (We used a towel as I didn't want my naked form, tantalizingly obscured by the dappled glass, to cause a car crash.) The public rooms and restaurant had a certain splendor to them and the staff were amenable and helpful. The restaurant menu didn't entice us to eat there I'm afraid so we ate out every night. The lift was small and smelt funny....I think it was the carpet which could have done with a good clean. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, it was excellent value and would recommend it to others. Please take any criticisms as constructive

I booked a standard room have stayed before our room was ok but nothing special, needed dusting more often. Menue was the same all week, I could not eat most things as allergic to some things.Huge breakfast could not eat so much, great for the big appetite.

Great Location and VFM!

I spent a night here over Easter with a few friends and found it a great place to stay. I can't comment on breakfast as it was room only. The room was huge and comfortable. Good selection of coffee, tea and hot chocolate available in the self beverage making facilities. Room was clean but perhaps a little cold and had to put the radiator up a bit. Bathroom was clean and does what it supposed to. Staff friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is a 15min walk from the station and a 5 min walk from the Hoe and a 15-20 min walk to the Barbican area. So location is great. Definitely worth a stay.
