Good staff, average room

Extension work to hotel is causing problems, power supply is turned on by the key swipe card, this was faulty and needed a cardboard wedge support to work properly, receptionist was good and saved the day

Not A Family Room

We booked a family room (2 adults, 2 kids) was told it was a sofa bed which we thought would be fine. However it was a single mattress that pulled out from under the sofa & one child had to sleep on the sofa which was hard & uncomfortable & not particularly clean. We had to go & ask for bedding for the children. The room felt grubby & I left feeling itchy.

A good base.

A good base to stay - rooms clean & tidy, staff pleasant and helpful, Waitrose and eating places next door and ASDA close by, good access to motorway and local roads, free wifi and parking, reasonably priced especially if you pay up front. The only thing we would change is the mug provided for tea and coffee - it's very thick and awkward to drink from. We have stayed before and would stay again if these standards remain.

Review

Our family just spent 2 weeks in the UK with multiple stops and hotels. This hotel was adequate for us as a family and suited our needs. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Overall it was comfortable, clean and our family room was adequately spacious for our needs (although slightly on the smaller side than experienced elsewhere) Would recommend it to short stay travelers exploring the country but NOTE - the room has no air-conditioning and was extremely hot with no fan to even circulate air.

Great hotel at a great price

For a 2 star hotel, this place provided everything we needed for a comfortable nights stay to include free Wifi. Lots of food choices nearby. Clean water heater for tea and coffee. Quiet and microwave in the lobby area if needed.

Location is very handy for Oxford,

Location is very handy for Oxford, but I was surprised to be in a smoking room (I didn't realise it was still possible to smoke in hotels). Everything else was fine except the shower - it seemed impossible to have water any warmer than tepid.

NOT SO GOOD

We had booked a room that was meant to be suitable for 4 people. This room was not suitable and fortunately there was only three of us. The room was a smoking room which we had asked for non-smoking and was very small. We felt the receptionist was either having a bad day or was not enjoying her job and felt that we did not want to ask even if we could change rooms. Considering the location it was a quiet room. There was no soap left in the shower and only two sets of towels in a room booked for 4.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

As this is on a motorway service area there are a number of dining options immediately available.

For what it is, a good sleep-over

For what it is, a good sleep-over and ideal as a stopping off point on a long or difficult journey. Motorway resturant and all that that means next door. Complicated one way system in the service area and signposting poor - almost non-existent. Book in staff helpful but being a lodge no other service was needed or available. Failed to give the agreed 6.00am wake-up call.

The staff were warm, friendly

The staff were warm, friendly and helpful. There was a broken handle to the window in our room so the window could not be locked. We were two ladies and on a ground floor so we did not feel safe. It was a none smoking room and the only other available room was a smoking room on the first floor. My companion has bad legs! There was no hot water on both evenings, so we had to wait for them to sort out the problem. This made us late for our meeting with friends on both nights. The staff did all they could to help. I would have asked for a full refund, but I had booked through a agent, so I had paid them. I would have liked to think we would have benn offered a voucher as way of an apology. It is the first time I have used a Days Inn. The thought of paying to stay again if I was to experience the same low standard of accomodation is not what I would do or promote to friends.
