- The Columba is the perfect base for a holiday in this vibrant seaside town, with lots to keep families, groups of friends and hopeless romantics happy as well as being prime location for business guests staying in the area. Oban is known, as The Gateway to the Highlands is a picturesque port on the west coast of Scotland. Oban was a fishing village but is now one of Scotland's most popular tourist destinations. It is the ideal port from which to visit the islands. It has many attractions for the visitor including the Oban Distillery, which was built by Hugh Stevenson in 1794. The sunsets over Oban Bay are quite breathtaking in their splendor.

Featuring excellent service and a range of top quality Scottish dishes, a meal in the Columba Hotel is always a special occasion. Guests and non-residents are also invited to unwind in the hotel's Harbour Bar and Harbour Lights Bar. Serving a wide variety of whiskies, wines, beers and spirits, enjoying a drink as the sun sets across Oban Bay is not to be missed.At the Columba Hotel, breakfasts are also worth waiting for, with guests given the choice of either a delicious hot or cold buffet. Excellent location, right by the
Excellent location, right by the harbour. Easy access to the town. Parking difficult, 8 spaces (for 40+ rooms!) allocated in small carpark outside, otherwise it's pay and display (9am - 6pm), so get there early, especially in the height of the season. First impressions were not good. The whole building could do with a lick of paint and a flat roofed extension to the side is very tatty. Inside, it is dated and could do with some ventilation (some parts smelt like the British Transport Hotels from the 60's, but later, a fire door was propped open to bring in some fresh air - not ideal). The lift is a real museum piece - max two plus luggage and couldn't stop at the second floor. The room (305) was spacious and gave a great view across the harbour to the islands. Unfortunately, the en-suite toilet had not been cleaned from the previous occupant. Some of the interior has been renovated, very traditionally. Breakfast was good and the staff friendly. Recommendation - the jury's out.
