Good Stay

Perfect location right opposite the train station and a good location for the city center as well too with bars and surrounding restaurants just minutes walk away. The hotel is a comfortable clean place and the staff very helpful. the only gripe i have is there was no safe in my room, which i feel for a hotel of this standard/quality this should be a standard addition.

one night stay

Reception at counter gave us a room down 12 steps. Due to the intervention of a young man working on that floor, we were given a superior room and hot chocolate whilst we waited for the room to be cleaned. The rest of the staff were superb. breakfast good and an awful lot of kindness. We would certainly return to this Hotel.

Directly across from the train station

My son and I stayed here two nights. The location was excellent - right across the street from the train station, though refurbishment of the station entrance meant that the direct path out the entrance and across the street was blocked. We were in the back corner room on the top floor that offered plenty of space, though it did feel a bit of a trek to get back to the lifts (including a small, five-step set of curving stairs). Noise was fairly typical for a downtown hotel - it didn't bother either of us, though we noticed the housekeeping cart had instrucitons that earplugs were to be left in the front rooms (facing the station). The breakfast was excellent - a buffet, but offering all the elements of the full English breakfast in addition to fruits and pastries. The location meant that we basically walked down the hill to quayside, and it was about the same distance in the other direction to Market Street and the pedestrian shopping area.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Not really "dining" as they only serve lunch, but the Bridge pub is just a short walk away: across the corner from the castle and right next to the entrance to the high-level bridge. A great pub with a fine selection of cask ales, traditional decor inside, and a nice view of the Tyne on the back patio.

quiet stay for location

nice hotel, not sure if was given a small double when I paid for a standard double as the room (214) was small and I had notice that my key card number had been changed - looking on the floor plan on the back of the hotel room door - our room was smaller than the one originally assigned ?? didn't stay for breakfast, £15 each, there are enough nice cafes on your doorstep offering full English breakfasts at half the price .... Stay again ???? probably if the room is cheaper than others near by, it was a quiet hotel for the area (inside and outside the hotel) apart from the room doors that are heavy and when slam do slam with a thud. hotel was impeccably clean and staff polite

Northumberland Plate Weekend

We travelled to Newcastle by train, as you come out of the station the hotel is across the road, good start. A few drinks in the bar waiting for everyone to arrive, normal hotel prices, but you need to check with reception for drinks discounts on party's. We were on the 3rd floor in two singles overlooking the train station, the room was clean. The hotel provide you with ear plugs, which I thought strange until we came in at 1am, very noisey with music & passing traffic. Location was good near lots of bars & plenty of take-aways. We had a room only deal as it was cheaper, then added breakfast on arrival @ £10 per person per day, plenty to eat & drink , so overall value was good. There is no room a/conditioning & the rooms were very warm @ night. Would I stop here again.....yes if the price was right.

Do not stay at this hotel

Reception and entrance lead you into a false sense of security. Our room as tiny - so small that my side of the bed was against the wall and the only way I could get out of bed was to either climb over my husband or get out of the bottom of the bed without banging my head on the TV. The wardrobe looked like it would fall down if you hung anything in it and the bathroom... It was dirty / disgusting - didn't look like it had seem bleach in years. I had a bath not realising how bad it was - it only when you are sitting there you notice more. I would have complained but we due to fo straight out. I had bubbles in my bath and it wasn't until got out I realised the bath was full of black bits and they weren't from me!! I felt dirtier after being in the bath than when I went it. This has to be the poorest hotel I have stayed at in a long time (and I have stayed at pontins (unfortunately))!!!

Little Gem

The staff was wonderful. Parking was ample and availible. We had a little of a hard time finding it with the one way streets. Great location we really enjoyed our stay. We were able to walk to nice restaurants and clubs.
