Great value hotel in perfect location

Just back from a 3 night stay in The Royal Station Hotel and we loved it. Location is perfect right at Central Station where the airport train leaves you and where there are rail connections to all over the UK . It is close to shops, bars and restaurants and a 10 - 15 min walk( downhill) to the lovely quayside area. The hotel is a very old listed building and has great charm . The foyer looks very grand with a great glass chandelier. The staff are very friendly and helpful and it was no trouble to leave our cases until check in time and again for them to keep them after check out on day of departure. The rooms were nice, old fashioned but spacious and clean. One interesting perk was that the contents of the mini bar was free ( we double checked this just to make sure) and replenished each day ( Mon - Thurs only)we had a small bottle of white wine fruit juices , water , kit- kats and milk for our tea and coffee. A nice touch . Our room was on the top floor at the back away from any street noise . There was the occasional noise of a train going through the station but not very often and this noise didn't bother us and could only really be heard if the window was open. There was no noise for adjoining rooms . The hotel has a nice leisure facility with pool , sauna/steam rooms and a jacuzzi. This opens at 7 am and we used it every day . Pool is small but it was never busy. We didn't eat in the hotel so can't comment on food. For the budget prices they charge you couldn't do better than this in Newcastle .

Fantastic hotel

This is a great hotel right next to the railway station. It is in the town centre and close to bars, restaurants and the shopping centre. The staff are really friendly and helpful and there is a fridge in your room with complimentary water and orange juice in. The rooms are well equipped with ironing board, iron and hair dryer and even a robe and slippers! Will definitely be staying here again when we next return to newcastle!

Entertainment tip: Short walk from hotel

There is a shopping centre that is only a short walk from the hotel that has a cinema and plenty of places to eat.

Perfect location

Perfect location, right at the central railroad station. The place was quite loud at night. Poor noise insulation in the room.

Would not recommend staying there!

Although the location is great I would never decide to stay in this hotel a second time. The room was dirty and also the staff was not friendly.

Perfect base for Newcastle

I arrived at the hotel at 8:30am and was told I wouldn't be able to get to my room until 2pm as there had been someone in the room the night before. That was no problem, I was able to leave my bag in the storage room & then use the wash-room facilities in the gym to freshen up. When I finally got to the room it did seem to be the furtherest from the entrance but sure a little exercise does us good ;). I found the room to an excellent standard, no problems with the cleanliness or the amenities. The only downside to my room was that it was to the front of the hotel which is quite active at night time and can be quite noisy. I had woke up during the night and found it hard to get back to sleep but thankfully I was equipped with ear buds which done the trick. I think ear buds would be a handy solution for the hotel to leave in the room for any light sleepers. That evening I spent a while in the gym & pool area which was more than I was expecting. A wonderful extra to the hotel. For breakfast in the morning I took the lazy option and just paid for it at the hotel which I thought was quite expensive. I did try to make it value for money though :) The hotel is a great starting point for exploring the city, whether it's to the shops or St James Park. As I was only staying for one night I didn't get to see much else of the city. On the Sunday I was also able to leave my bag in the hotel after I checked out and headed to a NUFC match (a must for any visitor) which was perfect as my flight was not until later that evening. I found the staff really friendly & helpful the entire time I was there. Any little queries I had they were more than able to help.

The Union Rooms across the road is a cheaper alternative for breakfast or dinner & is a great spot to sit in and eat while watching a football match.
