Very good very friendly staff

Very good very friendly staff nice rooms a bit away from places though Newcastle is about 6 miles away but that didn't bother us as we were mostly interested in going 25 miles up the road to Alnwick. We'd stay here again.

What one would expect from a Holiday

What one would expect from a Holiday Inn. Reception staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. Rowdy guests at 2am and 4am on Saturday night. Clean, well appointed rooms. The pillow scheme is a nice touch. Threadbare towels (standard room). I probably won't stay there again simply because it is too far outside of Newcastle (7 miles from city centre) but the deal meant attractive pricing.

Room service and reception did

Room service and reception did not pick up - I rang 3 times and still got no answer. Curtains falling off the rails in the rooms. Do you need to replace the soap if it has been used once and the guest in staying for another night? Very wasteful.

Great location

The Holiday Inn Newcastle was a great location for a person who is taking several day trips while in England. A large well lit free parking lot is on site. This is often hard to find in a lot of European communities. It has quick access to several main arteries in the Newcastle area. By using their breakfast buffet, you can be on the road quickly first thing in the morning. They are also located right next to a gas station for that last fillup before heading to the Newcastle Airport. The rooms are large, clean and comfortable. And did I mention that nicely heated tile floor in the bathroom? One of the drawbacks included computers in their business center which wouldn't connect with the internet so I couldn't confirm my flights on line.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

With this great location, we were able to have daily trips with Holiday Inn being our home base. We saw Hadrian's Wall and Vindolanda, Durham Cathedral, York Minster, Rievaulx Abbey, Howard Castle, Alnwick Castle, Bamburgh Castle, Edinburgh, Castlerigg and the Lake District, Cragside, and of course, Newcastle proper.
