Great views of the Tyne
We only spent one night at the hotel but really enjoyed it. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the location is great for the Quayside area. When we were there the hotel was being refurbished, so one lift was out of action causing a few delays. The furniture in the room was also looking a little outdated and worn, but there was a letter in the room to explain that this was being looked at as part of the overall refurbishment.

Pluses outweight minuses
The hotel (which does need to be updated - as they are planning to do) is located right on the River Tyne. It is just a short walk (uphill) to the center of town but far better to watch the tide roll in and out on the river then be located elsewhere. There is a outdoor market on Sunday, two minutes walk, along the Quay. I was shocked that the hotel (that size) did not have a single converter from American plug to British. After purchasing one at the train station, I realized my computer's plug would not fit into the converter's "mouth". Colin, who I spoke to at the front desk, went way out of his way to fix the converter and help look for a telephone charger (which I had also forgotten). This made up for the fact that no one was able (or interested) in helping earlier in the day. I dined at the restaurant and, with low expectations, was pleasantly surprised (except for the pungent smelling smoker who served my dessert). Too bad they charge for internet access.

Sightseeing tip:
Short walk from hotel
Side Gallery, just down the street, shows photographs and along with Amber productions across the alleyway has been promoting documentary work (photography and film) in the area for almost three decades. I learned there is a risk that funding will run out within the year - go support them!

Comfortable Room and Great Location
I recently spent four nights at this hotel. My room, which had a nice view of the River Tyne and Quayside, was a bit small by American standards but perfectly adequate. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was large with a tub/shower combo, and the shower was powerful, not always the case in the UK. I was pleased that the hotel was quiet, too. I enjoyed the location on the Quayside, and the train station is only a 10 minute walk. I opted not to dine at the hotel, as the prices were a bit steep for me and there are several options within walking distance. Overall, I was pleased with this hotel and would certainly stay there again.

Short walk from hotel
The Quayside pub is about a two minute walk from the hotel (if that) and offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The food is quite good, and I also enjoyed the atmosphere.

Tired looking rooms, uncomfortable
Tired looking rooms, uncomfortable bed, old tv with bad reception. Didnt eat at the hotel but bar service was good. Great location, right on the quayside so handy for Newcastle Arena as well as local bars and restaurants. I think this was quite a grand hotel but in need of refurb to bring it back up to a 4 star standard.

We requested an early check in
We requested an early check in and when we arrived (at 12 noon) we were told by one receptionist our room wasn't ready and that we would have to wait. We were in a hurry as we were meeting people at 1.00 p.m and we needed to change our clothes. We only waited around a further 5 mins when another receptionist asked if she could help. We told her our story and she had us in a room immediately. It was a lovely spacious room with a fantastic view overlooking the river. Overall our experience at the Copthorne, Newcastle was a good one and we would definitely recommend 100%.

It would appear that this hotel
It would appear that this hotel is living off its reputation of situation. The room view is great across the river, and although compact are adequate. What was disappointing was, no free water or stocked minibar in room, (I don't normally use the minibar but it is always nice to know something is available). The room was hot, which is of course good in winter but, waking up thirsty and dry was not a comfortable experience - yes there is water in the tap. In addition, wifi was only available in the lobby and bar at a price! Which in todays era I found quite dated and strange for what is probably primarily a business hotel. If staying in Newcastle again. I will most likely change my venue. A Premier Inn is only a few hundred metres away and probably half the price with equal facilities.

Superb location on the Quayside
Superb location on the Quayside with all rooms having a river view. Very nice room, but noise from Metro crossing bridge, but that did not bother us. Most enjoyable breakfast from a very friendly staff. Short walk (uphill) to Metro and City Centre. Easy access to Hotel from North and South. Car Park extra but only cost £2 for the 20 hours we left it. Will definitely stay here again.
