Excellent base to explore Manchester from

Room was clean and well appointed, with a spectacular view over the city. Bed was comfortable, even if the supplied pillows were too small to be comfy when used singly and too large to use two. Bathroom had large bath and a walk in shower and was well insulated from the bedroom. Supplied iPod dock worked very well and the nespresso machine was a nice touch. Breakfast was excellent - a really impressive range of food, available until a very reasonable 12pm. Only downside was the £30.00 charge for access to the spa. This is really more of a sauna than a spa. There are better facilities available at other Manchester hotels without an additional charge.

Beautiful Hotel

This is a beautiful hotel, Up there with one of the best ones i've ever stayed. The room was very nice, good size, very welcoming and comforting. Only bad thing i have to say is the main road ir right outside and can here traffic quite clearly. Overall i would say i definately would stay at the Macdonald again.

One night stand - worth every penny

I needed to see my daughter on my way from New York and wanted a good rated hotel without all the hassles of moving around Manchester. Trip from the train station to hotel is just about 3 minutes leisurely stroll. The reception is kind of tacky and the elevators have obviously seen better days. But the customer service blew me away. I came in a wee bit too early for check in but that wasn't a problem at all. I was promptly whisked to my room. If Manchester was cold that day, the smile of the guys at the front desk started an inferno. The room was good with splendid view of whatever I could see. Sleep was comfortable. Room service was fast and decent but I'm not the type for English breakfast though. I will definitely come back and the reception wouldn't be a deterrent although it is somehow shameful that such a grand hotel could look so tacky.

A very very good hotel

I was quite surprised just how good the room was at this hotel. I would highly recommend it to anyone who has a stay in Manchester. The only slight downside is that it takes little time figuring out exactly where the hotel is. But, you can easily see it from Manchester Piccadilly station. I will certainly be back here the next time I'm in town.

complaints

we should of checked in at 2, we parked on the car park about 12 went into hotel was told to come back at 2 we went to do a bit of shopping got back 2.45 to find out our friends room was not ready so we had to wait, we did finally get to our rooms, there was still a dirty tray outside our room (not nice) then our friends tried there card in the door and it did not work so they phoned reception and had to wait another 10 mins to get a another card. we got into our room which is a lovely big room and i had a shower, while i was waiting for the hubby to shower i decided to get into bed to keep warm, i pulled back the quilt and the sheets were dirty which i think is disgusting, so i had to phone reception and the maid changed them, our friends also requested for a ice bucket to be sent to there room because they had treated us to a bottle of bubbly for our anniversary which they had to go to reception them selves to get it because they took so long. The spa was area was small aswel.

Lovely hotel

I would have given this five stars but one of the lifts was broken and the other wasn't stopping at my floor so I had to go down the stairs with my bags. Luckily I was only on the second floor. The receptionist said I could have used the phone by the lifts to get assistance but I was down by then.

Unprofessional Payment Customer Service

- I arrived at the front desk, knowing that the payment had been taken from my account in August, as is normal for [...]. Then after I gave the lady on the desk my name and reference number, their was no record of me paying for it. I then was asked for my debit card, so if they need to charge me for the room, then they have my card to fund it.- After some persuasion, I then asked for my room key and explained that they would have to look in to this in the back office, as it was so unprofessional to do this in front of waiting guests, and for them to call me for an update.- I got the call after 40 minutes, stating that they had made a mistake and that they had seen the payment made back in August from my account! - In the call, I was told that I would be expecting a call from the Reservation Manager, never got the call and will not be returning to the hotel, especially as Prostitutes roam to the side of the hotel! Many thanks,Carl
