A Night's Stay Before Flying!

The bed was extremely comfortable but, since I am under 5 ft. tall, I had to ask for steps to climb into it! I thought the cleanliness could be improved on & the plumbing in the bathroom was archaic! The noise from the upstairs plumbing was unbelievable but, fortunately, no one used it during the night - to my knowlege. Otherwise, it's a quiet location within a short shuttle ride from Terminals 1 and 2. Breakfast is not included in the price but I didn't have time for any in the morning until I got to the airport.

Adequate one night stop over

The room needed updating, bathroom wooden furnishings very worn. Curtains & wall paper needed refreshing. No hand towels. Late night staff very helpful & courteous, check out staff - not so - didn't ask if everything had been ok!

Perfect Airport Stop Over

My husband & I stayed at the Etrop on Saturday. The hotel was in a perfect location only 5 minutes from the Airport. Our room was spacious, clean & really comfortable. We ordered room service & the food was divine! The staff at the Etrop were all so welcoming & friendly. Everything was done with a smile & we really felt at home. Looking froward to our next trip already!

Airport stopover

Rooms were tired for a four star hotel. We asked for quiet rooms but were given really smelly ones over the kitchen vent before we asked for better ones. The rooms need upgrading. Our bedstead had knobs that fell off or were absent. The paintwork in the rooms needed repainting and the bathroom had the hot and cold taps on the wrong taps!

Brilliant nights stay

Stayed at this hotel before and would definitely recommend it. Had a late flight on the way back from holiday and is a better option than a taxi for us. The transfer car had officially stopped running for the night, but they did come out to pick us up. The room was excellent and the breakfast was also good.

Take care before you book!!

All was good with the exception of two major issues, particularly for people of a certain age - a) No lift, as it is a listed building ....... b) No hotel transport to the airport terminals before 5 am ....... Taxi costs £5.

OK for before or after flight into Manchester

Quick pickup at airport, friendly driver and clerk at checking. Rooms OK but variable, get first floor if you have heavy luggage as no elevator. Meals very good.

Just OK

We had two rooms. Our room was OK. Our friends room a/c did not work. They had contacted the management and I thought it was fixed. After we left, our friends told us that they were told that some work and some don't. Theirs was never working. It was a very worm time in England and even with the window open it was very warm. Since our friends are European and used to non a/c rooms they put up with it. Had I known, I would have complained. I did not find out until we checked out. They hotel should have at least reduced the rate for the one room. Other than that, the hotel was fine. Clean and good food at the restaurant.

Location Convenient but Service Severely Lacking

When booking this location the idea of staying in manor house was very attractive. Add on to that the convenience of being so close to the airport, free internet, rooms with 4 poster beds, and an on-site restaurant made the choice of reservation easy. Depending on the trip like many people, I have expectations and requirements. At a minimum, we always expect a clean room, working amenities and a level of service that provides a sense that you have some value. What was received was none of the above. Items that contribute to this low rating: Shuttle from airport to hotel did not meet the expectation set by the hotel and instead exceeded the period by more than 30 minutes. Phones were not answered when following up on shuttle not arriving. Check-in to the hotel took just 40 minutes once engagement at the counter started. Free Internet (wireless) was not accessible from the second story room we were assigned. On the ground floor, common area’s signal was good, but overall speed was slow. Upon check in, the desk staff did not inquire if Internet access was desired nor did they fill out the access code portion of the room information slip. Multiple codes were required if internet session ended as well as for each unique device wanting wireless connection. Staff communication on this topic vacillated between talking down to the guest to disinterest. Room appeared to be clean, however once in the room previous occupant’s items discovered along with a stale musty smell that permeated the room. Bed was a beautiful four-poster with an outstanding mattress. Truly, the bed was the best part of the room and would have netted a high rating for the hotel if not for the other issues. The bath was large, functional with nice amenities. All rooms are walk-up and access is through multiple doorways depending upon location. I spotted two different guests becoming lost when trying to get back to their rooms. Improved signage or accessible maps would be helpful. Meals: Hotel restaurant was not busy and we were offered our choice of seats. The green outside the conservatory was beautiful, thus we selected a table at one end of the room to allow each a view. After water was provided, a member of staff questioned our choice of tables pointing out that many others were open with an offer to assist in moving us to a more suitable table. Food: Selections were more than sufficient to meet most guests’ preferences. Where the restaurant failed was the attention to customer requested options such as dressing on salad, doneness of a steak, sides requested. The gap was not in minor degrees but in significant levels. Wait staff varied between disengaged, to borderline dictatorial in manner and tone. Quality of the food was at best two of five stars across all meals. Steaks possessed far more gristle and inedible fat than lean. The Steaks are not listed as Kobe or even corn fed Iowa beef on the menu, however the quality would be something far more suited to feeding your pet carnivore but not if you were fond of them. Checkout was reasonable and lightning fast if compared to the time it took in each instance to check-in. Local sightseeing or access to places such as the Peak district, nightspots, or train station for additional adventures is handy. Closeness to the airport did not affect sleep or a stroll in the green area as the flight path does not come close enough to add any significant noise. Recommendation for the hotel would be: engage a customer service transformation consultant and then a culinary expert. Perhaps Gordon Ramsey could remove the nightmare on the food side and bring sweet dreams. It is my very sincere hope that this honest feedback is used by the hotel to improve the operation. Three separate stays at this location during this trip were booked. None impressed above two stars. Post trip 2 different local to the hotel couples passed along that they too had experienced issues there, using the park and fly option.
