Fabulous London Trip

The location is very convenience for me (near Chinatown), expect the room is really small, we have two luggage not enough space to fully open it, may be I need to ask for a bigger room next time.

Almost Excellent

I booked this Thistle for its location - just off Trafalgar Square and the Veronese exhibition at the NGA on the Square was a major reason for my trip to London. Didn't know the chain, hadn't heard of this hotel, but having been there, I am a huge fan - well I'm not huge - but my fandom is. So I won't speak for the other Thistle's, but if you want a reasonably priced - this is London so one's definition of reasonable must be jiggered a bit - hotel, in a great location, stay here - you will like it, maybe love it. Right off, the staff - wonderful. The folks in the restaurant - really good food by the way; the folks at the front desk; those in the bar and the lobby lounge (nice fire in the fireplace (gas or fake, not sure, but it was cozy on a typically rainy London afternoon). The woman who kept my room neat as a pin and worried if I had everything I needed - she was wonderful and so earned the tip I gave her when I left. My room was large - by today's standards where you get a broom closet in Paris for the price Louis paid for all of Versailles - with a comfortable king bed. Lots of western light - at the end of a long day of museum-going, nothing nicer than to lie on the bed and let the warmth of the late afternoon sun ease the aches from your art-soaked body. The bathroom was quite small, but usable. The one serious problem I had was the shower which never worked right during my stay - the water lurched from steaming hot to cold, spending no more than 20 seconds on either variant and hardly passing through the interim - just leaping from one to the other. Oh well, I mentioned it to management and perhaps they'll fix it. Stay on the 4th floor or higher - above the roof line of neighboring buildings. My room, 426, was fine - but for the shower. Breakfast - prepaid - was 12 pounds and pretty much worth that - reasonable selection, but the espresso is extra - don't like that idea at all. I had dinner there one evening because I had theater tickets and the theater was close to the hotel - a very pleasant surprise - I had the slow-cooked duck and it was quite tasty. And the service was wonderful - the restaurant staff is just really good. I liked the bar, but for the ubiquitous tv's with sports playing - interfered with a rather good selection of music playing through the sound system - if you must, leave the tv's playing but on mute, especially when no one is looking at them! I really liked this place - I would definitely choose it again. Location is brilliant - next door to the NGA, 25 minute walk along the river to Tate Modern, 10 minutes to Houses of Parliament, 15 minutes to Buckingham Palace - lots of public transportation within 5 minutes walk including the District Line and Circle Line. You won't be disappointed - unless they haven't fixed my shower and then you'll be perturbed. Oh, and it's quiet up in the room, away from the street noise - but a small street so not much traffic.

Dining tip: In Hotel

If you are going to the theater in Leiscester Square area, I recommend dinner in the hotel - it's quite good food, service attuned to the time constraints of theater goers, and you can freshen up upstairs in your room with plenty of time to walk to the nearby theaters.

Good Hotel

Location was excellent, right next to Trafalgar Square but on a quiet side street. We had a problem with the shower in our room, but was able to switch room easily. The staff was very nice, but swaps somewhat strict about the check in time.

Very.. ordinary

The hotel, was nice, but we paid a lot and did not feel it was worth the price, the rooms were clean and neat and we were offered an upgrade - which was 30 a night extra, we felt this was not worth it, for a bigger bed an bottle of wine, while the staff were helpful - did not feel we got an value here. Location - close to everything we wanted to see. I like my TV and ours only had a handful of channels with many channels not working.

Some rooms with a view

The location right behind the Sainsbury Wing of the National gallery is terrific, for the Gallery, Trafalgar, theater, Covent Garden restaurants, a pleasant short walk home through great monuments after dinner, no worries about taxi. Staff professional and efficient.. As a building a bit modernishly ordinary but comfortable, but some of the rooms, upper floors facing east (4th floor and above) have amazing, private views over the roof tops of London: the national gallery, St. Martin's in the Fields, the "sherd", Charing Cross, Nelson's column.

London Birthday/ Thanksgiving Trip 2013

This was a really nice hotel. The location was perfect next to Picaddilly Circus, Leciester Square, and Trafalgar Square...shops, restuarants, and tourist attractions. The rooms were well kept, a little small, but really nice and relaxing. The hotel staff was wonderful and helpful...My next visit to London, I will definitely stay here again. Perfect!!
