Comfortable

The Windermere is an attractive fully modernized London boutique hotel within about a seven minute walk from Victoria Station. The London transit system has to be the best in the world and if you buy an Oyster Pass upon arrival at the airport you can avoid high taxi fares for the most part. The staff are pleasant and helpful, the room extremely comfortable and quiet and the breakfast all that one would expect of a full English breakfast. The price is rather steep but so is the price of everything else in London these days!.

En route to Victoria

Booked this as we wanted to stay close to Victoria station for an early train the next morning - and it is really close, we just walked up with our cases in the morning. Got a really friendly welcome from Juan when we arrived and he showed us personally to our room. We'd booked a deluxe double room and it was a lovely room, well decorated with a canopied bed, very comfortable and the best hotel mattress I've slept on! We ate in the hotel as well and the chef was also really friendly. Not a huge menu, but the food was excellent and the seabass special was very good. Thought this was a little gem and we'll stay here again when we need a stopover in London.

Shame

what do you want from a hotel in London…Clean, nice decor, good staff, shower works, sleep and good breakfast. What a shame gets someone to design the rooms please and I will come back any time The room decor was so dated and not in a good way it was like staying in some basic pub from the 70's in a basic way. also street level and no double glazing. Great location if you need to get to the Victoria the staff were very nice and true breakfast was great…..what a shame get

Wonderful staff and location!!!

We had a great stay at the Windemere! We arrived at 10am despite check-in time not being until 2pm. The staff let us keep our luggage at the hotel and recommended that we go to the changing of the guard as it was happening that day. The staff helped us navigate the tube stations and gave helpful reviews for local attractions. The location is AWESOME!!!! Just a 5 minute walk to Victoria Station which is the hub of everything in London. We had a 9 month old with us and staff was very accommodating for him. GREAT STAY!!! Will certainly go back!

Extraordinary!

The staff was extra helpful. We needed a place to store our luggage before arriving and they accomodated us for free! And then our luggage was already in our room when we arrived! The room was on the top floor with beautiful views of the area. Beds were extra comfy, the room was immaculate. The extra touches with the bottle of water, tea, hot chocolate and coffee were perfect! Free wifi enabled us to communicate with family back home! Breakfast on the lower floor was delish. We weren't made aware on our first morning that we could order a hot breakfast, but the continental buffet was enough to keep us satisfied. The second morning we ordered from the menu and it arrived deliciously hot! Not much to choose from on the hot menu, but it was still great! I cannot say enough nice things about this hotel...Wish we had stayed here our whole time in London! The only drawback was the extra distance to walk to the bus stop/tube stations. Hotel seemed to be located in between two stations (at least that's what we found) Although we needed to walk off all the delicious food!!

small, quiet and soothing

We enjoyed our stay very much and appreciated that our room was warm and cozy during an unusual cold snap (snow, ice, temperatures around 0 degrees C0. The staff were pleasant and helpful, the included breakfast was very good, and we were able to get around London easily from there--to the V&A, the Saatchi gallery, Westminster Abbey, etc--while not being in a big hotel in the middle of the tourist spots, which we prefer to avoid.

A great find in Knightsbridge

I traveled to the London to visit with a client who I get to via Victoria Station. So, I wanted a hotel near the station. The Windermere was about a 5-10 minute walk and I found it a lovely British experience. The staff was friendly and attentive, the breakfasts were great, the wi-fi worked well. The room was small but very comfortable, just the bathroom, though fully functional and with great amenities and towels, was a bit tight. Even had a safe in the closet. The bed and beddings was very comfortable. I will certainly go back.

Outstanding

My wife and I have been regular travellers to London for over 25 years and we've finally found the nearest thing to an ideal hotel. The family-owned Windermere is in a pleasant residential district a brief stroll from Victoria rail and tube station (make sure you use the shortcut which the staff will explain) and an even shorter walk from Victoria coach station. The hotel has been refurbished to a very high standard but still manages to be intimate, homely and as far removed from the corporate blandness of the big chains as it's possible to imagine. We stayed in a "classic double" room which was more than adequate for two of us. The bed was so comfortable that on two mornings we slept far longer than we'd meant to! The food is excellent and breakfast is included in the room price. The staff were delightful - the warm welcome from owner Nick when we arrived really set the tone for the rest of our stay. Highly recommended - we'll certainly be back.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

The food in the Pimlico brasserie is excellent but if you want a change the Sri Suwoon Thai restaurant on the corner of Hugh Street and Cambridge Street (about three minutes walk from the hotel) is very good and does a pre-theatre menu for a very reasonable £14.95.
