The Library Restaurant
bbar & Restaurant, facing the Royal Mews of Buckingham Palace, is a South African themed venue also run by the family-owned Red Carnation Hotel Collection. It is just on your left as you exit reception at The Rubens. The menu is international, but with a strong South African accent lent by dishes like Springbok fillet, Grilled Boerewors Sausages and Bobotie Spring Rolls. The two bars serve an impressive 110 wines (over 50 by the glass) from an eclectic list of old and new world producers including Bouchard Finalyson, a vineyard in South Africa, also belonging to The Red Carnation Hotel Collection. Passionate mixologists prepare over 60 cocktails, from the classics to the more exotic, while the warm and relaxed service creates an invitingly intimate atmosphere.

A very small room in an old hotel in a great location. Fine for my purposes.

It's an old hotel, and my room was very small. But it was charming, and the location was excellent. Considering the location, it was a very good value. It would not have been good for a family vacation, but for me on a business trip, it was fine.

Great Location

Price was a little high but located near Buckingham Palace and by plenty of hop on hop off buses it was easy to see a lot of the city.

Good Hotel

The Rubens is situated near to Victoria, and very close to Buckingham Palace, and therefore excellent for tourists. Our room was very small, but comfortable and well appointed. The public areas are very smart, but the bar prices are high, even by London hotels standard.

city break with my wife

The initial experience was terrible. Firstly the recerioninst carelessly failed to activate the room key and then were given a pokey room inferior to the booked specification. We felt that the hotel tried to shortchange us and got us off to a very poor start. We were however quickly upgraded. In general we were underwhelmed for what is an exoensive hotel. . We used the bbar one evening and were far from impressed and dined out for the rest of our stay.

pleasant but tiny room

Welcoming and helpful staff. Had a very small room but it was nicely furnished and comfortable. No remote for the TV but that was put right rapidly. Noisy Aircon or some machine in the internal courtyard the room looked onto so had to shut the window, then the duvet was too warm but the internal aircon blew onto my face and was unpleasant - so not a great nights sleep! Located near to Buck palace but even nearer the massive reconstruction going on at Victoria station.

Very good, but expensive

A great location, and generally excellent service as well. The price, however, was high, even with a discount, though perhaps not enormously so by London standards.

Excellent Location-Service-Food

We arrived early in the afternoon...before normal check in time...and the only room avail was not great...but..we waited..and got an excellent room. Staff was friendly throughout the process and through the one week stay. Concierge got us good tickets to shows...the high tea had much better food than one at the Lanesborogh..(lanesborough was very nice though)Location is excellent...across from Buckingham Palace..we saw the queen--and...even saw Obama's limo--(during G-20 Meetings)....Extremely nice place without being too formal for american-business-tourist....
