Pretty good in London

The hotel has good staff. Good location, close to subway, has bars and pubs near it. The only down side is the concierge , which shows you around but pushes you to join the bus tour. Serves great and free coffee in the morning. Quite expensive, but no where is cheap in London anyway.

Perfect Stay in London

My husband and I stopped here on our way to the Maldives for our honeymoon and we could have not stayed at a better place. This place is within walking distance to everything. When we arrived very early the staff was warm, welcoming, and not only gave us a room early but upgraded us at no additional charge. They were so wonderful and helpful with everything we wanted to do. We will return the next time we stop in London, it really is a great place to stay and the rooms are beautiful. Loved our stay!

Great Location and Staff, has some quirks.

The location and staff of this hotel are great. Right next to all the sights, and the staff are the most pleasant people to stay with. With that said, the hotel itself had so many little annoying quirks that need to be addressed. First, the hot water in the shower was spotty at best, so was the WiFi that cut out often. The bed was clean, but very beaten up and old. The main elevator was broken and seemed to be that way for a long time. No one ever tried to fix it. You had to take the stairs or the staff elevator. Overall it was a nice stay, but for the price, you could stay at a fresher hotel, but I doubt the courteousness would be the same. One more plus, I was upgraded to a room with a view because it was out anniversary and the room was available. It is nice to have sunlight whenever possible in London.

Two blocks to the right is "Le Signore" breakfast and lunch counter. Best and least expensive breakfast in all of London. Skip all other places in the immediate area.

Central London doesn't get any closer

From our arrival at the Rubens (Sunday noon-ish) through departure (Saturday morning), we were continually impressed by the staff's courtesy and professionalism. Following check-in we were greeted by name, and conversation with ANYONE on staff was comfortable, pleasant and informative. We "upgraded" to a room facing the street (actually overlooking the Royal Mews), and were slightly disappointed that this did NOT provide a view of the changing of the Guard at the Palace (as was advertised), and the room was cramped (at least by American standards), but overall the ambiance and the staff more than compensated from these small annoyances. Street noise was never an issue (at least on the second floor). For the most part, we partook of the full breakfast buffet, and were quite satisfied with the quality and quantity of the food and the service. Dinner at the Carvery was uninspired, but that probably had more to do with American over-seasoning than a fault of the kitchen. The full afternoon tea was a real delight (opt for the champagne option if you can). Bar service was impeccable, but if you enjoy an American-style Long Island tea, be prepared for something somewhat different (not worse, just different). For a change of pace, the BBar restaurant next door is also quite good, with the benefit of charging your meals/drinks to your Rubens' account. The central Westminster location is within walking distance of most major attractions, even for those of us who are not accustomed to healthy exercise.

I was treated like royalty!

The staff at this hotel could not have been any better! They immediately memorized my name and greeted me every time. The Conceirge went out of their way to help with everything. Hotel is 2 blocks from Buckingham Palace in 1 direction and Victoria Undrground station2 blocks the other way. All London sites are very easy to get to from this hotel. Food in restaurant was very good, too!

Convenient location, excellent staff, very small standard room wit full size bed

The hotel's location is right next to the Buckingham Palace and about five minutes walk from the Victoria underground and train station. Hotel's staff is excellent . There is a complimentary internet but it does not always work well in a room. The standard room with a double bed was very small without a dresser. So we had to live out of a suitcase for a week. There is a place to hang cloth up on hangers only. The breakfast was good but pricey, we got a special package that included our breakfast. The hotel has an old charm with a military motif and nice restaurants. There a couple of nice restaurants right across the street towards the underground . We really enjoyed Noodle-Noodle and an Buckingham Indian Bakti. It is also close to St. James and Green park, about 15 min walk to The Westminster Abby . The bus stop is near hotel for sightseeing or take it to see Harrods, Royal Albert Hall or Trafalgar square which is less expensive than train and takes about 15-20 min to get there. There are two bottles of water and a tea pot with a selection of flavors in a room also.
