Great but expensive

Enjoyable experience with a couple of niggles. Daughters breakfast took two telephone calls to arrive on second day despite putting the order out the night before, but did give it free. No powerpoints near any mirrors so very difficult to dry hair properly. No tea of coffee making apparatus in the rooms.

Royally Romantic!

Beautiful old school hotel, charm, charm, charm! Very nice staff. Perfect location. We had three picture perfect nights there. Only downside: young staff did not provide very good restaurant recommendations (exception of fantastic nearby Indian restaurant!). One young woman was at a complete loss as to what/where to recommend, much less make a reservation for us Minor flaw. Still fantastic experience and we hope to return.

Perfect Location

We were so happy with the proximity to Hyde Park. It is a tranquil get-a-way after a bustling day in London and only a block away. The proprietors were lovely as was the room. Ours was small but elegant and efficient with a large bathroom with a tub. Other than the creaking floors...which is standard in many of the older buildings, or room was very quiet. The hotel is very clean and stylish and we would consider staying there in the future.

Sightseeing tip: Long walk from hotel

We loved the walk to the Tate Modern and recommend it highly for any visit to London. From there we walked to the London Eye and then worked our way down Oxford Street for it's amazing shops and then back to Hyde Park for a boat ride. It was a spectacular day!

Sublimely situated; Divinely decorated

We travel to Europe on business about 6 times a year and combine business with pleasure. The Royal Park is among the nicest hotels in London in which I have stayed. Less than 10 mins. from Paddington station, it is spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated, has 'spacious' rooms and bathrooms (compared to other UK hotels), with friendly and helpful staff. Our room was decorated in a modified Tudor style, with a great bed and marvelous bed hangings and linen; the flat screen TV looked to be brand-new with a sharper picture than ours at home; the bath was spacious and beautifully decorated with Penhaligon bath products not to mention a heated towel bar. While there is no restaurant in the hotel, the room service menu is excellent and within a reasonable price range, but the area is full of restaurants on parallel streets, or one can bring something from the takeaway facilities in the neighborhood. The staff is friendly, patient, knowledgeable, and helpful. The location is convenient, near two Tube stops and the train station We will definitely stay here again when we return to London.

Made to feel uncomfortable

After booking through Orbitz, I phoned the hotel to confirm they could provide us a room with two beds. I spoke with [...] who confirmed they would accommodate this request in our phone conversation and a follow up e-mail. However, when I arrived at the hotel with my family, the hotel told me they didn't have a room with two beds available and didn't remember the conversation that I'd had with them just a week earlier. I promptly presented the e-mail from [...] confirming they would accommodate the two beds request. A look was exchanged between [...] and the other woman at the desk, and then [...] said, "err, that was me that you spoke with." We were given a nice room with a fold out sofa, so it worked out. The next day, I made a phone call on the hotel public phone to confirm my next hotel reservation, when [...] saw me and asked, "What are you doing?" I explained that I believed this phone was available for guests' use. She responded flatly, "No," and then said, "Okay, go ahead." This left me feeling very uncomfortable. In addition to this, we were charged 15 pounds (about $25) per person for a continental breakfast that we believed was included in our room rate. We were told by the hotel, Orbitz never includes breakfast in their reservations. This has not been our experience, nor was it stated on the Orbitz reservation, nor said in advance at the hotel. On the plus side, the hotel desk was helpful to us regarding a restaurant recommendation and holding our bags past check out.
