Celebrating Anniversary in London

We were greeted with smiles during the entire stay. The entire staff was the friendliest, Concierge service was excellent, taking time to arrange day trips and give us directions for walking the city. The hotel was within walking distance to all London attractions and the Underground was just around the corner, we were able to use that means of transportation vs the cost of taxi to and from airport and train station. Definitely a 5-Star Hotel, treat us like the King and Queen, Thank You very much!!

Not like in the pictures

I go to London several times a year and have seen a lot of hotels. Tried this one but won't go back. Booked an executive room expecting it to look like the pics - big and roomy with large oversized windows. Not what I got. It was large by London standards but space was poorly used. The bathroom was more like a corridor and there was a large entryway that was rather wasted. Hotel also has a rather annoying policy of demanding 50 pounds a day from you for booking with this particular website. Supposedly this is "refunded" at the end of your stay, but in my experience it takes much longer for the money to show up; meanwhile you have a higher credit card bill than you expect.

Wonderful hotel walking distance from the best of London!

Lovely stay at The Royal Horseguards - friendly, helpful staff and an absolutely ideal location, steps from Westminister Abbey, St. James' Park, the London Eye and much more - which was very helpful as I was only in town a few days and wanted to see as much as possible. Beautiful and well-appointed room, always well-kept. From the hidden hairdryer (a high powered one!) and "welcome lighting" effects to a heated bathroom floor, the amenities surprised and brought a lot of smiles. Special thanks to the concierge for helping me with theatre tickets and more. Very special trip for me - got to see Kate Bush in concert! Staying at The Royal Horseguards made it even better. Highly recommend!

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

If you love walking and learning fun trivia and historical facts, take a tour with London Walks! So much fun and an action-packed two hours. Many great themed tours available to match any interest (i.e. pubs, literary London, The Beatles) and each tour costs only 9 pounds. Phenomenal!

Home away from home

We have now stayed at the Royal Horseguards 3 times and each time we've experienced excellent customer service, comfortable, elegant, and state of the art rooms, and a delicious, peaceful afternoon tea. The location is also ideal since it's walking distance to many tourist attractions, theaters, and restaurants, yet on a quiet side street away from the hustle and bustle of London. I would highly recommend this hotel and we plan on staying here for each return trip to London.

A big let-down

Room was superb and comfortable. Location was great for us (very close to the theatres). Staff was inconsistent - had to call down for turn-down service one evening. No water at bedside at night unless we specifically asked for it. Telephone charges were exorbitant (local calls starting at one pound each, with a six-pound charge if calling a UK mobile!!) At least one of the three lifts was out of order for our entire stay making the wait for lifts quite long. If I want to stay in a 5-star I would not pick this one again even though the location was great!

The breakfast coffee and pastries at Paul's bakery (The Strand) were excellent. There is a Costa coffee shop just under the bridge overpass within 100 meters of the hotel for just a cup of delicious coffee or a quick snack.

Mind the Car fees

The hotel was lovely, the room had an excellent view of the garden, including the London Eye, and was walking distance to Trafalgar Square. BUT! The car company hired by the hotel charged my credit card 3X for the trip from the airport to the hotel. As you may imagine, having 500 dollars less in your bank account than planned can dampen the already damp time in London! My suggestion, use the black cabs or Addison cabs...
