London Excursion

The Hoxton was great! So cute and trendy, the staff was great, the room was perfect and welcoming, and main areas were full of life. Tons of great pubs, restaurants, and funky street art nearby too! I would certainly stay there again.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

The Rivington had amazing drinks. The food looked good as well, but we had already eaten. Gin & tonic specialties, gins galore! I had one with cucumber & whole rose buds in it. Yum!

Sold a Pup

On Checking in we were ask if we like to try a newly refurbished individualy designed 'concept room' at no extra charge ..well we've stayed at the Hoxton many times and thought wow thanks YES!! We opened our door with excitement and went in to a small dark cupboard with a large bed and we thought ooh this is errr quaint the main room must be behind this door alas no :( it was only the bathroom ..being British and with time already cracking we didn't complain we just threw our bags down and got drunk in the many local bars ... The 'CONcept Cupboard' left us both feeling we'd been conned especially as the following night we stayed in an amazing room at Malmaison at Farringdon 2 miles away Sorry Hoxton but think our Hipster love affair with you may be over :( it's time to throw away those skinny jeans, shave that beard off and grow up

For a certain type of person

I stayed here for two nights last week. I had stayed the week before at a hotel in Paddington station, and coming to this hotel was jarring, to say the least. First off, by this time, I had become best friends with the London Underground. So, of course, I thought nothing of lugging my gigantic suitcase and rolling laptop bag onto the tube to head toward checking in at the hotel. Well, don't do that. The closest station to the Hoxton Hotel is Old Street, and there is no escalator for part of the station and absolutely no elevator. This woman took pity on me and helped me carry my suitcase up a long flight of stairs. She said, don't worry, there's an escalator on this platform. The escalator took me the rest of the way up to the street level. From there, it was an OK/pretty easy walk to the hotel. The air conditioning in the lobby was sorely lacking. It was so hot outside, and it was so hot inside. I basically fell into my room. My hot room. Turns out you have to have the key put into this thingy in order for the air conditioning to turn on. So the air conditioning was not on until I got in there. Two hours later, I'm still sweating and don't have the energy to sight-see. Plus, the air conditioner was very ineffective. I had it all the way up, but it never got very cool in the room. I asked them if they could do anything. They said no and suggested I open my windows. Bleh. Also, the rooms are so small that my large suitcase had nowhere to go. I tripped on it constantly. Oh, and the pillows should be called sheets with a speck of padding. I'm trying to think of good things to say. They have a cute breakfast thing where they give you an orange juice, banana and small thing of yogurt every morning. They hang it outside your door at the time you request. Their choice of TV stations was really good. Normally I wouldn't know this because I would be out sightseeing constantly, but that first day I just couldn't move. OK, another good thing. Their Wifi worked really well, and it remembered me. I didn't have to keep signing in. Here's a shoutout to Carla, who works at the reception desk. My charger cord died, and as it was in the evening, there was nowhere to buy a new one. When I was asking about where to get one the next morning, she says to me, do you want me to charge it for you? I almost hugged her. So nice of her to offer something so sweet. She also pointed me toward where I could buy one the next day. Basically, if you're the hipster type with little luggage and don't need an escalator or elevator in the tube station or you plan to take a taxi or something, you might like this place. But it wasn't for me.

Good Hotel for First Visit

This hotel was great. The decor was great, it was extremely clean and the sack breakfasts were very much welcomed. The activity downstairs always gave you an option of something to do. The location was okay. It was a little bit of a walk to the Tube, but nothing overly terrible - the location made the price excellent for London. The staff was great as well. My biggest complaint was the bed. It was pretty uncomfortable.

Great - could have been incredible

As soon as I entered the hotel, the lobby took my breath away. Very chic, well designed, inviting, very hip. I spent several hours there, reading by the fire, sampling the kitchen's great food, just taking in the people and energy. The rooms were also unique, like nothing I had seen before, with interesting touches everywhere. My only complaint: the are undergoing some construction, and when I arrived I was told that it would not affect me and was on another floor. But I was awoken one weekend morning by it, and then the drilling became deafening one day I was trying to do consulting calls. I didn't dock my review points, because the manager was very responsive and apologetic. The only other issue was the spotty wifi in my room. If those two things hadn't happened, I would have given out 5 stars across the board. Will definitely consider coming back to see how good my experience is without those blemishes. Also great location - close enough to town, but also in the midst of the newer clubs and nightlife of east london.

Great energy, great irony, great value, great fun!

Staff were super-helpful. When I told the front desk that I was not happy with my dark, first-floor room overlooking the HVAC equipment, the front desk clerk moved me immediately to a fifth-floor room with good light and a view of the neighborhood. It made all the difference in my enjoyment of London. The Hoxton has some wonderful, ironic touches but they add value, not just snark, such as the early morning daily delivery of granola, yoghurt, a banana and OJ in a paper sack, the classy toiletries with a suggestion that one save the soap box for future use, and a useful neighborhood guide, to name a few. The Hoxton Grill has good, solid food, the bar scene is great, and the rooms are quiet. If you are looking for an off-the-beaten path experience on the east side of London, this is a great place to stay.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

There is a bus to Paddington Station (Heathrow Express) just a stone's throw from the hotel entrance. It made getting to Heathrow very easy.
