great location and roomy but nonfunctional

At first I was pleased by the attractive, contemporary decor and the pleasant staff, as well as the huge (for London) rooms. I already knew it was a great location close to museums, tube, etc. I had a one-bedroom for 9 nights and from day one the unbelievably small (even for London!) lift didn't entirely work. I thought it would be fixed soon, but at no time did it ever entirely work. I always had to go to the 5th floor and walk down, although I could ride down to the Lobby from the 4th floor. Other things didn't work, either, such as the in-room safe, which was also neglected for several days even though 3 people tried to get it to work right after I arrived (while I needed to shower and change my clothes). The whole time I was there they were also out of bar soap. But the staff was always friendly and I was so busy every day outside of the hotel I didn't bother to complain. I'll just book at another place next time.

Call the National Theatre at exactly 10:00 AM any morning and get a ticket for one of that night's plays. Even shows that have been sold out for weeks will have tickets available that have been turned back in.

Great value; VERY close to Gloucester Tube Station

Overall, a very good experience: pros - less than a minute walk from Gloucester Tube station and from Grocery, Restaurants; renovated within past 6 months or so. Cons - basement room at least can be a bit cold in cold season as heating seemed to be slow at heating room up; free wifi internet connection was problematic this last time, though I there was no such problem 6 months ago at 1st stay. Enjoyed the mini-suite type room. Second time staying here in 6 months, visiting from the US.

5stars is a total joke

i think the guy giving the 5 stars had too many pints. hotel is under construction so its a bit of a mess in the lobby. walls are super thin so you will get to know your neighbors. location is good as you are close to the tube

Great value in a great location

The "hotel" is actually an apartment building. Rooms have kitchen, bath and bedroom that are comfortable and well kept. Rooms are cleaned daily. "Staff" consists of one person at the entrance. They were all very nice and very helpful in every way (arranging travel, information and fixing things). Located one block from Gloucester Road Tube stop.

Clearly not a 5-Star hotel

We were on the 3rd floor of this apartment hotel for 12 days, but used the elevator exactly twice - once to bring our luggage up and once when bringing it down. There is only the one very tiny lift and it was preferable to walk up and down 3 levels rather than wait for and then stuff ourselves into it. There is 1 clothes washer and 1 dryer in the basement shared by the entire building - 'nuff said. The phone system in the hotel was inferior to Alexander Graham Bell's - almost impossible to speak to or hear the other person. We asked for a total of 3 wakeup calls during our stay - 1 was on time, 1 was 40 mins late, 1 was not received. There was no hotel guide or any information about amenities - like the safe, which I could never figure out (and calling for instructions was out of the question). We had understood that they had an association with a nearby gym, but apparently upon management change that evaporated. The apartment had an adjoining door to the unit next door and EVERY sound and EVERY smell could be sensed through it - in both directions I imagine. All of the knives and the vegetable peeler provided were very blunt. The refrigerator has no freezer, but depending on where you place eggs, fruit etc. they can and will freeze solid. The water temperature in the shower is adjustable between cold and lukewarm - at times we had to wait a considerable amount of time to get anything but cold. There are no face cloths (even on request). The television reception was incredibly poor (DVB-T). Trying to relax and enjoy a program in the evening after a hectic day was nearly impossible. There is no DVD or music playing device. There is no air conditioning so the humidity level was above normal and when combined with a plastic-lined mattress made for a few uncomfortable nights. There are no alarm clocks or clocks of any kind apart from the one on the microwave. The staff kept the unit very, very clean. The bathroom was newly renovated and spacious. The kitchen/living room was well appointed and there were ample plates, bowls and cookware. The WiFi worked well most of the time (odd dropouts in the last few days we were there, but usually fine). Like many hotels in London there's a Tube Station close by which is a big plus. Our stay last year in London at a 4-Star hotel was much better. The Harrington has a long way to go to reach the 5-Star level - IMHO I don't believe it's even possible.

If you're going to be flitting about London for several days get a Travel Card or an Oyster Card which will save you a LOT on your Tube / Bus / Train travel.

Appalling - never again

Don't be taken in by the star rating this is closer to two star accommodation. Arrived for a three night stay. Painters in the lobby and working throughout the night overhead by basement apartment. No view but dirty walls. Air conditioning did not work despite assurances it would be fixed. Light bulbs missing and others not working. Moved after first night to alternative accommodation Harrington Gardens Apartments no better. Grubby poor accommodation, like some cheap bedsit. Location excellent that's all I can stay. Worst accommodation I have ever experienced and I have travelled.m

Great location as base camp for family vacation in London

One block from Underground station, grocery store, multiple restaraunts of all types, lots of shops and bus stops. Apartment was clean, modestly furnished but pretty much everything we needed. Beds and bedding were comfortable. Had difficulty accessing the wireless internet for the first couple of days, but that was fixed after addressing it with the front desk. We would stay there again and recommend it to our friends.

30th anniversary vacation.

location is excellent. very close to Gloucester Rd tube station. very good amenities. spacious kitchen and living area. free wifi spotty. I sat by the entrance door to get good reception. elevator was tiny. staff were not consistent. some very knowledgeable about tourist areas and how to get about, others were not. This is an excellent choice for those who can get around London and want an apartment to live in. I would stay there again having learned how to use the subway and train system.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

for those staying more than a few days. get an oyster card for the subway ride to and from heathrow. like 10 gbp. then get a paper travelcard for 7 days which allows 2 for 1 entries to many attractions. you'll need to get this from a surface rail station like charing cross and you'll need a photo like a passport one.

Good Value and Clean

I am very concerned about cleanliness and was worried after reading a few of previous reviews. I found the kitchen and entire apartment to be very clean. I even observed a maid polishing the silver fire extinguisher in the hallway. I thought the king bed was comfortable-but it was 2 twins pushed together. i didn't care for the plastic mattress cover, but we removed it and it was fine. The elevator is only for 3 people, so families would want to keep this in mind. The location was close to the tube and you could walk to get groceries or to eat. Lots of good restaurants nearby. I was concerned that our key was within reach of anyone if the staff left the front desk- which they did do on occasion and left a sign. My husband just got our key himself when we returned from Paris very tired one night. That concerned me as far as safety. However, we later heard that the staff on call caught up to our teens up the stairs and asked if we had our key. Still, this might be a big concern for a person traveling alone.

Be sure to purchase tickets and Oyster pass to use the tube in advance. It saved us a lot of wait time. London was very busy everywhere we toured. Also, if you are doing international travel, BE SURE to claim your checked baggage and recheck it.
