top spot!

The central location of this hotel, literally beside Trafalgar Square, was perfect for grabbing a rest midway through the day. Staff on hand 24/7 and helpful. Self-service laundry facility such a good idea. There was a relaxing and friendly ambience and it would have been easy to spend a few hours just relaxing in the hotel. HOwever, the excellent location meant this was never going to be an option! Surrounded by tube stops and stations, near the river, the London Eye, Trafalgar Square, the National GAllery and not forgetting St. Martin in the Fields with its great cafe in the crypt, try it!

Absolutely Perfect Location

Between Charing Cross and Embankment tube stops on Northumberland will get you a great spot for exploring London. Extremely quiet room, comfortable bed combined with that location provides an easy spot to catch your breath in a city that can run you down. We stayed four days and found the staff to be very helpful. The laundry service and housekeeping were great too. Large bedroom and decent sized bathroom were very clean and modern. It might seem a little on the expensive side to some but, this is the highest value room we've stayed in out of our 5 trips to London. Compare prices with other hotels on this block and you'll get the picture. Should be listed as Four Star.

Fabulous place to stay

My wife and I spent 10 days at this hotel and it was a superb experience. The location is as fantastic as the other reviews say. You're within 1 mile of Buckingham Palace, Banqueting House, London Eye, Westminster Abbey, Parliament, Big Ben, National Gallery, and more. Check in experience was smooth and easy. They answered all our questions quickly and courteously. The Wi-Fi is 802.11b for those of you who understand technology. Most devices work fine with it but iPhone 5s have trouble. They provide a washer and dryer with detergent but it's only one each for all people so you may have to wait for your turn. It gets hot in there, too, without good ventilation. The room was very nice. Because we were staying for an extended time they upgraded our room at no cost. It was very quiet and we had no problems sleeping at night. The beds were comfortable. There was adequate room to move around in the room. The bathroom was smallish but still very nice. Temperature controls were easy to find and adjust. Checkout was very easy and smooth.

There's a Tesco Express around the corner where you can find snacks and drinks much cheaper than the hotel and many of the surrounding places.

Outstanding facility

We were looking forward to being "in the middle of things" and weren't disappointed. The hotel's location just off Trafalgar Square cannot be beat. Excellent restaurants, The National Gallery, the Portrait Gallery and two underground (subway) terminals are within steps of the hotel. The rooms are thoroughly modern with wi-fi and flat screen TV's. Beds are comfortable. Everything is new and kept spotlessly clean. It is one of the few hotels in the UK or Europe that will provide a washcloth. The front desk staff was very helpful in giving directions and in recommending restaurants and maing reservations. The only drawback is the limited and pricey hotel restaurant. Breakfast is of excellent quality but has the same buffet menu daily. The cost is 15 pounds per person (currently about $24 U.S. Dollars). An alternative is the two coffee houses near the Embankment station. A new restaurant, however, is under construction just off the hotel lobby. Having found The Grand at Trafalgar Square, we won't be looking for any other alternative on our next London visit.

Time-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

The easiest way to get to the hotel is from the Embankment Underground station. Bear to the left as you exit the station and walk under the bridge. Turn right on Northumberland and the hotel is just over a block away.

Incredible value...great location

My husband and I spent 6 nights here before moving on to the "midlands". The location could not have been better. From here, we walked to the theater district, the National Gallery, Covent Gardens, St. James Park, the London Eye etc. When we wanted tube access, we had the choice of 2 nearby tube stations. Our room was clean and well appointed. The hotel makes available, at no charge, a laundry room, fitness room, and several computers for internet access. (There is free wifi throughout the hotel.) We will definitely stay here again.

great location great hotel

I had to work some of the time when over there but my wife and sister in-law got to travel the City. The hotel was in a great location for the subway. location was one block south of Trafalger Square. Was in a very safe area. Dinning and pubs close if you didnt want venture out very far. With in walking distance of major shopping. London transit system if the best! I think it would be hard to beat the location and Hospitaly of this hotel

Excellent Hotel, Excellent Location

This was our third or fourth stay here. Location is great for theater, museums and restaurants. Most are within walking distance. As usual, there was the issue of getting a room upon early arrival in a sleepy jetlagged state. Requested same by email but it took a little persuasion to get the room early but the room we got was probably an upgrade without additional charge. The staff was very helpful and prompt. The only thing that would have been nice would have been a restaurant to get breakfast that was not a huge meal for a huge price. Obiqua was closed for alterations. The year before we were able to get a self-serve roll and coffee for 5 pounds at this restaurant. I didn't want to pay about $20 for a big breakfast that I didn't need. Also, the hotel should change the blankets that they use. They are much too heavy and cumbersome and the room heating only goes to about 68 degrees. They gave us a heater to make the room warmer. In sum, I definitely would stay there again. For what they offer, you can't beat the price.
