Disappointing Experience

My friend and I had reserved a stay with the Hotel Stand Palace for six nights. When we arrived, we were told that we wouldn't be able to stay in the same room for all six nights, and that we'd have to switch rooms for our last night in the hotel. They then offered a room upgrade of 25 pounds per night to stay in a slightly larger room for all six nights. We decided to go for the upgrade for less hassle. The room was very spacious and had decent amenities (comfy bed, a couch, etc). The bathroom, however, was straight out of a time capsule from decades ago. The bathroom did not look or feel thoroughly cleaned, from the shower to the counter top to the toilet to the floors. It was really rather unpleasant. The hotel's location, on the other hand, was really great. Close proximity to plenty of great dining and shopping, and a large cluster of West End Theaters.

Dissapointed

The hotel looks good. Several problems arose though. I use crutches and a wheelchair and they kept me standing at check in for about 20 mins while they checked what room to give me. Once in the room, I needed to use an iron and board, it took 3 requests before I got it. I also had to ask twice for the tea and coffee to be replenished and even then they brought the wrong things. I was woken at 8 am by the housekeeping staff talking very loudly outside my room. The bed was rock hard. I have had better service and treatment from Travelodge and Premier Inn hotels. I WILL NOT be returning to The Strand Palace again, I will look for a different hotel for my next visit to London

satisfactory for price

Room was small but clean, in line pricewise compared to previous stay at other hotels. Previously had stayed at more expensive locations so they were more lusurious, of course. Restaraunt foods were fairly tasteless, not worth the prices. Meal Prices at other locations more attuned to taste.

great price, great location.

the staff was helpful and available. Rooms were very clean. They have a room fan but still the rooms got very stuffy. The windows opened just a few inches and really no air came in through them. That was the only downside. Keep in mind, we were there in August so this might not be an issue when it is not the height of summer. the location of the hotel is the best. There are 3 tube stations within a short walk and only 2 blocks from Covent Garden and about a 5 minute walk to Trafalger Square and Leicester Square. Walk in the other direction and you are 2 blocks from the Waterloo Bridge and the National theatre on the other side. All in all, would stay here again.

Get the Oyster Card. It saves you tons of money in Bus and Tube fares and you can turn the card in at the end of your stay and get your deposit back.

High price for Low quality, but centrally located.

Extremely tight room without view and tub that didn't drain. Breakfast was good, but dinner at Strand Carvery was horrible - buffet food (dry meats and tasteless potatoes. Location is the best thing about this place!

It was okay

Small rooms, but it was okay since we only used it to sleep in. Great view of The Strand from our room, although it was noisy at times. No big deal. Would stay here again.

Location and price-- tops at Strand Palace

Cannot beat location and price for visit to London. Staff is friendly and helpful. Just that rooms are small, and of course not air conditioned... but who stays in the room? They do provide a fan. I have found my hotel in London.

Best Location

Friendly Staff Best location - except you might want to ask for a room not facing the main street since it is noisy all night---- Several little pastry/coffee shops and eateries within a block or two.-much more interesting and more for your money than the hotel breakfast.

Great Location at unbeatable price

The rooms while traditionally small, were fine; recently refurbished so nice. Two points, though not a problem for us: Shower is low so anyone abobe 6-3 will bang his/her head in the ceiling(!) and the beds are of the hard variety. No AC, but a fan is provided. Location is hard to beat and we got a the rooms at a very nice price.Strongly recommended!
