Great Location for Theaters

Have been to this hotel many times. Great location just 5 min walk from Trafalgar Square. Rooms are small but clean & neat. Cooked breakfast (included with my rate) was good -- coffee AWFUL! You can get voucher for 30-min of WiFi in lobby from lobby bar.

Entertainment tip: Short walk from hotel

Most West End theaters 5-10 minute walk. Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Westminister, etc. all within a mile or 2, so also walkable.

Small rooms - no air - nothing special

Staff was fine. location is good if not very good. My first time to london and I hear all rooms are tiny so I find it difficult to compare. That said, this room did not have any air except for the ability to pry open a very old window to the alley. If we had been on the street it would have been noisey. The lobby guest computers were out of order - which is a pain if you don't have a labtop.

It was okay

Small rooms, but it was okay since we only used it to sleep in. Great view of The Strand from our room, although it was noisy at times. No big deal. Would stay here again.

Not Bad for the Price

Overall, the Strand Palace is not a bad deal. Its location is ideal: less than 10 minute walk to Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus, a short hop to the Mall, Downing Street and Parliament. What can be better than that? The hotel itself is nice but be warned - NO AIR CONDITIONING IN ANY OF THE ROOMS. Luckily, London is often quite cool, even in August yet it can still get quite hot and stuffy in the rooms. When I checked in, I was given a room facing a closed-off courtyard of other rooms. It was stifling and stuffy. However, I immediately asked for a room change and the staff was accommodating. They gave me a room facing the street which had a nice cross-breeze that kept the room cool. I still wonder how it would be like, however, if I experienced a 90+ spell. (It's rare but it does happen during London summers). Other than that, the room is serviceable. It's quite tiny (some might compare it to a closet) but that's not all that uncommon for European hotels. Just be prepared. The website and the lobby certainly make it seem like the Strand Palace is a modern, American-style hotel. It is none of those things. However, for the price and the location (which is amazing), it's not bad. PS - Don't forget to explore Covent Gardens, a great little area filled with shops and restaurants right behind the hotel. Silly me, I didn't even discover this neat little area until my last day. Thus, there are plenty of affordable places to eat and shop right next to the hotel. (The hotel's Carvery also offers a great buffet lunch and dinner for a good price.)

Central location, no frills

Experience and service were most enjoyable. Rooms so small they do not allow any activity in a vertical position. Because the hotel is in remodeling, the space outside the rooms is shabby and includes construction crews and equipment. Rooms spartan look like exhibits from IKEA catalog.

Strand Palace Hotel Downtown London

I love this hotel and would definitely go back again. My room was on the corner and I had a fabulous view but it was noisy...mostly because the hotel is old and just doesn't keep the sound out. My room was small but clean and very quaint. The staff was absolutely fabulous.

Ordinary hotel, excellent location

There was a slight mix up with our booking - online we booked for two people but the hotel only had us down for one - but they fixed it quickly. The bathroom was not super clean and the overhead light was very flickery, so it wasn't the most comfortable room ever, but the bed was nice and the location was great, close to several tube stations and tourist attractions.

great locqtion

Repeatedly requested messages from hotel operator from book-in date until three days later, since it was imperative I knew where and when I was supposed to be seeing my British family....always told "no messages" Finally on the third morning the telephone was showing a red message light. I retrieved my 5 messages which had been there since Thursday a.m. I let the operator know this and they were uninterested!!.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

The Strand Palace is in a very convenient location with the whole of London just a stone's throw from the hotel. Of course the hotel was on a very busy street therefore a constant traffic noise. Restaurants and shopping are so convenient. Worth the noise - take ear[plugs!

Great Location

This hotel is in a terrific location and is in easy walking distance to Covent Garden, Buckingham Palace and other great attractions. Unfortunately the hotel does not have individual air conditioning in each room so a very small fan and a window that only opened about 12" was not enough for a a rare hot night in London. Also, the city decided to scrape and repave the roadway outside our window starting at 11PM. Needless to say the heat, noise and smell were unbearable. Not the hotels fault however and the staff was accommodating. We'd stay there again..
