More Style than Substance

Hotel looks good but the bed in the Funky Zebra room was shaky and uncomfortable. The room was disgustingly hot and stuffy despite there being a fan in the room. The bathroom is cramped but okay. The staff are rude and unhelpful - I had messaged the hotel weeks before arriving to advise we would be in London far earlier than check-in and they said they'd do everything in their power to help us into the room before 2pm but when we arrived it was all forgotten and we were basically grunted at and sent away for the whole four hours until 2pm. I know they don't promise early check-in but manners cost nothing! The man on reception also promised to guard our bags until we returned to check in - when we came back to check in our bags were lying unaccompanied on the floor. You need to leave the key indoors if you leave, this is weird and annoying. Breakfast was a shambles and a joke. And if you're interested in seeing the flashy cars outside - don't bother as they're under a dustsheet and the owner doesn't appear to ever be around. Positives: it's clean enough and the location is a 15 minute walk from Hyde Park, okay for a night.

You get what you paid for

I know hotel rooms in Europe are small, but this one was tiny. There was about a 1-foot space around the bed and that was it. The bathroom was tiny too and there was no shampoo or hair dryer. The room was decorated nicely, but the bed was not very comfortable.

Decent Location; Unfortunate Facility

The room was sold as an "en suite" room; the shower was a small glass enclosure in the corner of the room. The toilet was in a small room nearby; one had to go into the hallway to get to it, and its second door #to a small garden area# did not lock. Given the conditions, it's not surprising the room was humid and overly warm #with no controls available#. It was also overly crowded, with a large light fixture hanging down too low and a floor lamp taking a significant portion of the available space between the bed and the sink. The one thing going for it is location; two and a half blocks from the Edgeware Rd tube station makes for a nice just-off-central location.

lots of character

The Pavilion Hotel is decorated with funky quasi-Victorian details, including beautiful floral wallpaper with birds on it, old (beautiful) wooden furniture, paintings, Oriental rugs, and dark curtains. It has lots of character. It's also in an old building and doesn't pretend to have all the conveniences of a big spacious hotel. My single bedroom was tiny, with an even tinier bathroom that had a noisy machine to improve the water pressure in the shower -- not luxurious, but certainly functional. And my room had nice old wooden furniture, a fantastic sparkly chandelier, and a big window. The staff was very nice and accommodating, and the breakfast was modest but good, and delivered right to your door. The hotel is in a convenient neighborhood, very close to Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens. I really enjoyed my stay and highly recommend it, especially to someone who values character and a Victorian aesthetic.

Character rooms main positive

If you are into quirky character rooms then you are in for a treat. We got the Chinese themed room "Enter the Dragon" which had a balcony facing Sussex Gardens road. This offers much needed cooling in the summer heat but may be a little noisy due to traffic at night. The room is only for slim to average sized ppl and not anyone fat or obese. Why? The doorway to the shower is only 2/3 shoulder width of a UK 12 female. The lounge which I had looked forward to seeing was shut with some poor excuse of 'malfunctioning smoke alarm', which is easy to fix and no problem since smoking is prohibited anyway. Intelligence tells me it's shut so it's one less cleaning location and for lower overheads. Please note that Edgware Road tube station is no longer on the Bakerloo line. Front desk staff is lovely and speaks good English. Not much help with recommending good food. A street nearby serves Lebanese and muslim food and shishah if you are into that. Complimentary working hair dryer is available over the front desk. Door is locked in the evenings so only guests are allowed in which is a nice safety assurance. The breakfast is substantial in good quantity though of average quality, and brought to your door because the lounge is 'conveniently' shut. Rooms are as clean as old furniture stuffed rooms can be. No bad smells detected but bed is a little hard which I suppose fits the ancient China theme. Price is reasonable all in all and if you like quirky character rooms stuffed to the gills with interesting artifacts, then it more than makes up for its weaknesses.

Close to central London

The hotel is small compared to other hotels in the area. The cost was great and it's location in central London very close to paddington station was great. I would recommend this hotel for those who are very budget conscience.

No good Ratio quality / price

Ratio quality / price very bad, this would be ok for 30-40 Pounds, not for the price I've paid.

Unique Decor, Small Space

The hotel is not as outlandish as their website makes it to be. OK for kids but not much room to move around once inside the room. Nice breakfast delivered to room each morning--something for everyone. Location not great at night; safe, but not much to see or do. Easy access to Underground to get everywhere. Very unique style of decorating. Something to see wherever you look.

Time-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Just a couple of blocks to Edgware Road Underground station. Buses just across the street to Victoria Station and Portabello Market.

Small, but clean and convenient

This is a budget European hotel, which means that the rooms are tiny and the bathrooms are even tinier by U.S. standards. However, this one is conveniently-located and a good value for the price. It's furnished with mismatched furniture and some fantastic paint, which gives it more character than your average budget hotel. Continental breakfast (which was delivered on a tray in the morning) was adequate, rooms were clean, and staff was courteous.
