Certainly NOT 4 stars

Well, I stay in hotels a great deal - for work and for leisure, So I have a very good idea of what a 4 star hotel should be. Lobby was very promising, concierge very attentive and efficient.....assured us that we would have a quiet room as requested. So a little perturbed when we are given a room overlooking Southwark Street with continual noise from buses, traffic, emergency vehicles etc!! Sound proofing didn't really work and we were repeatedly awoken by the noise. Room décor was dated and a bit shabby, lampshade had a hole in it (really can't just buy a new one?), didn't look like any effort had gone into making the room welcoming or any sign of those little bits of effort genuine 4 star establishments make. Housekeeping failed to clean the room properly and remove litter, used toiletries etc. I could have done a better job of making the bed myself, and have doubts as to whether they even replaced the sheets with clean ones. Perhaps the refurbished rooms can be called 4 star, but ours certainly could not. The chairs looked pretty old and dirty, and looked like you might catch something off them. The small door on the side of the shower/bath repeatedly leaked water all over the floor creating a large puddle (health & safety anyone?). Oh, and they didn't even wipe the coffee tray clean (a small detail I know, but the devil is in the detail). Perhaps lowering the price of the old rooms to reflect their true state would be a good idea. Won't be staying there again. I'll be taking my rather frequent and regular business elsewhere - to those establishments that really do make all the effort and have earned their stars. The only good thing about it is the lobby and location.

Nice hotel with interesting location

This hotel is nicely located on the South Bank, seems this area of town gets busier and busier. Nice room, with a good queensize bed. The bed/mattress could be sofhter though. Nice bathroom with bathtub and shower, and a handful of amenities. v ery clean throughout. Good Continental breakfast at 9,50, that can be expanded to full English at 15,90, but the Continental was enough for the most of our stay. London Bridge Rail and Tube are ca 10mins walk from the hotel. As is the bustling Borough Market, Vinopolis and more. The restaurant staff in the evening could well be more selling than just order-taking :-) All in all, a hotel that I gladly recommend, unless it is to far from your business meetings. For people on holidays this should serve as well as any other. Attentive and serviceminded staff, the front desk is very efficient.

In a good location

We enjoyed staying at this hotel, the room was good and it was close to the Metro station and nice restaurants. It was also close to the river and the Globe Theatre, so we found that getting around was easy. The staff were always friendly and helpful and the restaurant was yummy. I would stay here again.

OK but not extraordinary

The hotel was under refurbishing during the exact days I stayed there: this information should have been given in advance. The room was quite small for a four-star hotel. The bathroom had minor repair needs which - to my mind - should be taken care of if you rate yourself four stars.

Weekend with the Mrs.

Great price for the room, realised why when we got there. Hotel is undergoing a renovation. Having said that, the room was nice and clean and staff were friendly and helpful. Only a 5 min walk to the southbank. If you can get a good price then it's fine here but there are nicer hotels in the area.

Oyster cards are great and will only charge you a maximum of a day travelcard anyway. It's a £5 deposit to get one but that's to make sure you look after it for next time you go to London. P.S. if you like peanut butter, find a Bens Cookies shop and get the peanut butter and milk choc cookie. Warm and soft in the middle. And bring me some back...

First time in London

Upon arriving, we were greeted my a very helpful staff. The experience was very good, except for poor Internet connectivity found in the rooms. Aside from that, it was a very nice experience.

Excellent Location

The hotel is between two tube stops on the Jubilee Line (London Bridge and Southwark). The staff was very friendly, accommodating and ready to help. It impressed me that the staff knew my name and addressed me by name each time I returned to the hotel. The location was excellent and I recommend checking out the Burroughs market area near London Bridge tube stop for excellent eateries. I will definitely stay here again.

Enjoyable stay!

The staff at reception, in the restaurant & bar, were all very pleasant. The location is good for all the venues on the South Bank of the Thames eg. Tate Modern & Globe Theatre. We would recomend this hotel to anyone visiting London.
